Good morning.  Bright and sunny here now that the sun has climbed over the trees on the horizon.

Love a skit.  Some of those are very clever and funny.

    Hi all.

Thick fog and freezing cold, no excuse not to study I suppose.

Sounds worrying LP, hope you get it sorted.

Hope all goes well, LP. Nice to have a GP handy when you need them.

    How's your pond looking, Obelixx?

It's so gloomy here. But I don't appear to be ill in any way today - hurrah - so I'm determind to make the most of my morning before tripping off to the Barbican later (will be there for a while before the concert so am dutifully taking RHS revision to do in the library).

Up & at 'em indeed image.

The pond is filling slowly LG.

Humming and hah-ing over whether to plant the weeping and the twisted willow or just one along with the gunnera.   No point dreaming of lilies and marginals as it will all evaporate in summer, with or without help from willows.

It's going to be amazing, Obelixx. But it makes me sad to think of it all drying up every summer.

It's not that different from the pond we dug for drainage in Belgium.   It attracted loads of wildlife and we simply hid the dried up mess behind planting round the edges - shrubs, miscanthus zebrinus, iris sibirica, filipendula and so on.  It's currently looking a lot better than when we arrived and it was full of bullrush, brambles and goat willow amongst other horrors.

Good morning all from York (well, a village nearby...)

Mum and baby are having some extra shut-eye so Granny (that's me) has cleaned the kitchen while the coast is clear.  image  Now I'm about to search out some recipes for interesting things to prepare & cook using the meat in their freezer (there's a bit of venison... not sure what else yet), plus whatever is left from their veg boxes over the past few weeks (which unfortunately includes both a red and a green cabbage, but also a butternut squash).  The idea is to re-stock their freezer with stews, soups etc which can be reheated by harassed young parents when I'm no longer in residence.

Is your pond clay lined, Obelixx?  Will the water just evaporate, or does it leak?  It would be wonderful if it could be made permanent...

Hope the concert goes well, LG.  Lovely to be a proud Mum.  image  (I loved those G&S parodies, by the way!)

Wow, Raisingirl!  I'm addicted to TP's "Discworld" novels, but a suitcase which really has a "mind of its own" is a scary prospect...

Catching up with children's nicknames - my two were "SB" (for "Stupid boy!" - that one has stuck, I'm afraid, even though he's 39) and Eleblob, which became Blobby, for my daughter Eleanor.  image

Anyone have any brilliant cabbage recipes?  image
