Morning Dove and Joyce. In rural areas, Joyce, we are required to control those weeds that are considered a problem to farm animals and that get out of control, for example St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perfoliata).
Farmers here are being encouraged not to use weedkillers. My horses, and cows when I had them don't eat Saint John's Wort anyway. It grows here, but doesn't seem to get out of control. Ragwort is a bigger problem.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
We have a long list here of weeds that we are required to be controlled, BusyL, but I won’t let him spray around my gardens, especially the vegetables. I pride myself on producing edibles that are grown in a safe way.
I've been AWOL a while but with work and Christmas looming, I'm sure I'm not the only one!
I've been popping in to catch up here and there, so in a brief recall, happy birthday and welcome home Hosta x
Welcome back from your wonderful holiday Chicky!
Hope you had a lovely time at the cottage BusyL
Lirio, glad OH is coping and on the mend
GWRS, lovely the sound of an early extra Christmas and boxing day! Wonder if my boss would go for the idea
Lilyp and Joyce, keep warm up there! Its been bitter where I work as its on the coast, I've been well wrapped up against it though, hope you two are too! Or even better, stay indoors!
Glad you have had some well needed rain Obelixx, bulb planting tough work in cold hard ground!
Bobthegardener, great news that the electricity problem is fixed! Excellent service and just in time!
Pdoc, good to see you looking in and keeping us company! Best wishes to you and Mrs pdoc
Fairy, your AWOL too, hope the wrists aren't hurting you too much! I know how it can be! X
Dove, looking forward to my next cardie! The wool sounds lovely! Thanks x
Memory fails me now .... Waiting for hubby to wake so I can start to make noise, the neighbours normally let their kids run in the room above our bedroom from 10am onwards so I predict sometime around then! I have some final Christmas shopping to do only about 4 gifts left and then a few acres of wrapping paper to wrestle!
This year I decided on the main part to by from crafts people rather than shops. Fed up with large tax dodging company's! More personal and individual gifts from craftspeople anyway! Gonna be a bu**er to wrap tho! mind you I think trying to find a parking space will be my first battle! Or maybe it will be resisting another coffee!
Perfoliate St John's Wort is considered a bit of a rarity around here - it grows along the old railway sidings where ballast was brought in from elsewhere. Pretty thing; I hadn't realised it was poisonous to livestock.
Minus 5 here overnight too, Busy. Didn't get above freezing all yesterday and is currently minus 3.5. The recycling pickup didn't happen yesterday, not surprising considering how treacherous the roads were. If it stays this cold, the chicken bones (stewed for stock) in the food recycling bin won't attract rats. Otherwise I'll need to freeze the bag for a week, I suppose...
It sounds like the dentist here. Next door are having their pointing replaced, and a man with a big drill is removing failing pointing right next to our window. Might find some more shopping to do, while waiting for the freezer to defrost.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Blinking chilly here too! Don't have thermometer outside or I'd never go to work! But the house thermostat said 14 which means I've been forced to feed the cats and jump back in bed with a second coffee whilst the heating does its thing!
I'm still joining you for shopping Lirio but its just been delayed for a bit!
I've been having a slow morning ... finished an absolutely marvellous book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28446947-autumn then showered, buffed and primped, painted talons and toes and blow dried and applied maquillage ( did you spot my little tribute to Johnny Halliday there ).
Now I must drink more coffee ........... no need for any shopping today .... we have enough supplies in to withstand a siege, let alone the possibility of a day or two of snow, and OH will bring bread, milk and eggs home with him tonight.
The temp in the back garden went down to 0.00C last night but it's sheltered there ... I suspect it was a degree or two lower in the front which is a frost hollow.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Morning again.
I fell asleep again after 6.30. Up now to get my hair cut.
No frost here but I need to cut some logs when I get in from work, otherwise we'll freeze to death.
BL , have to say the Shops closing for lunch is one of things I liked about France , can’t see the need for this 24 hours , 7 days openings personally
another nice but cold day , white stuff forecast for tomorrow
Have a good day
