Joyce - I have other arthritic bits which have eased since we moved here to a less humid atmosphere but this stuff in the toes is new and very pesky.  No doubt I'll get to needing a stick for balance but not yet I hope.

LG - lovely to see you.  How did the exams go?   I have all this year's new bulbs to plant and some from last year that were in pots.  To dry up until the week before Xmas and too busy since.  Next week then.

Arthritic joints image  I now use a walking stick when out walking......gives a sense of security.

I find a stick is a useful accessory in busy streets or on uneven ground etc ... if my dodgy knee plays up not only does it reduce the pressure on the knee, it encourages people to give me a wider berth rather than 'hustle' me if I'm taking my time on steps, kerbs etc.  I'm only mid sixties and never thought I'd need one yet, but I find it's actually enabling me to be more active image

I've just tipped the snowdrops out of their  ( too small pots ) and added compost above and below.

I plan to feed them once they've flowered, pot them on a bit and grow on for a year, let them flower, feed , then plant in the ground at the base of the oak tree.

We watched Harry Potter last night, and will probably do so again tonight.

My gorgeous girls took me  to the studio tour for my 50th birthday so I kept saying " I've been in that room, I've walked along that bridge " etc etc.

  • Hi all

Have read about Hosta's tough time and hubby's accident , Pdoc and everyone else who have had ailments .......Pat .....30 degrees would be an ailment I could live with image

Hope you have all had a great Christmas with your loved ones. We had a bit of a tough time of it recently.... hence my absence on the forum .We were in London for our 20th anniversary and my BH's birthday on the 24th Nov ...we were at an amazing concert in the Royal Festival Hall , I had booked a box and we were so happy with the concert ....unfortunately I could not move after the event ...I had to be helped out of my seat . I could not travel back to Moscow with my wife as she had to go back to help her mom. I spent some time in Manchester with the neurosurgeon who performed my surgery in April ....looks like I am destined be bent like a shepherd's crook. Back in Moscow now.. We have horrendous weather here ......global warming is devastating .....+5 ......never seen the likes of it.

Will post some pics over the New Year period.

That doesn't sound too clever DL.   Hope everything eases for you.

Dove - I have multi-directional knees and "loose" hips as well as arthritic bits in my spine.  I can see me using a stick as a mobility "weapon".  Good game - altho round here, apart from people not knowing how to drive a supermarket trolley, there is no jostling.  Everyone seems to have the time to be patient and chatty.

Hosta, I watched HP too and probably will again this evening.  Good story even with all th ebits missing from the books.

Obs, HP was a tradition with my girls.

By the time the last couple of films came out, No 1 daughter was at Uni in Glasgow and we had to wait until she came home so we could all see the films together.

I'm not sure which of us enjoyed the studio tour more, but it was the best birthday present I've ever had.

  • Obelixx ... watch out for supermarket trolleys ... the torque exerted on your knees when pushing is horrendous ... it takes me a minimum of two days to be pain free after pushing even a lightly loaded one ... I'm learning to pull the bu$$ers image

I have a stick like this one ... so much better looking than the medical model https://www.stickandcaneshop.co.uk/hazel-coppice-knob-handled-walking-stick-stout-c2x10466422

Good to see you Dacha image  We've missed you ... Sorry you too have had a tough time ... I hope 2018 brings  better things (Ihugs))

I'm fine with trolleys Dove - so far.  It's just the other "road users".  I like your stick.   When I do get one it will certainly be stylish.

Sometimes I miss my crutches; you used to be able to steer the "traffic" around you to give you space. Very useful when visiting the town when people seem to be tempted to push rather than ask you to move out of their way.

I've been and collected his lordship and my beloved puppy. Very long drive in not great conditions. I think the hound needed to come home. All he's done is sleep! Poor devil his routine has been really messed around it must be so confusing for them.

The fire is roaring; we're meant to be meeting up with friends tonight but it's so cold out I could easily fall asleep here with Reggie.
