Well, bang goes that idea. I was doing all the indoor jobs first, leaving the essential shopping (things needed for tomorrow's trip) until the promised "window" in the wall-to-wall rain we've had today, which the Met Office reckoned would be 17.00-19.00. The forecast has been updated to show a 70% chance of precipitation... and it's raining harder than ever...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Been out all day cos Harry needed new brakes on all 4 wheels - 700€ ouch!
Decided we'd head a a bit further north and explore St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie which is the biggest sardine port in France and also a has long, sandy beaches so is heaving in summer and inaccessible to the casual passer-by. Had lunch at a fish restaurant I wanted to try and it was delicious but would have been so much nicer if I hadn't been eaten myself in the night and wasn't itchy in places you can't scratch in public - broken toe, under bra, inside bra, back, thigh, back of knees.......... Spent ages in the loo dabbing anti itch cream everywhere.
Went for a stroll round the old port and the yacht basin and found 2 lovely churches, one Roman and one Gothic, but nothing else of interest to us.
As the car wasn't quite ready after all that we popped into a handy garden centre and bought some more MPC for soil conditioning and some carex for finishing my winter pots of red and white cyclamen, a ceratostigma which I could never grow in the old garden and a rich, lilac Michaelmas daisy.
Hosta - I hope the Gambia is calmer this time. FG - well done for persevering. Dove - sitting aroun is very bad for muscles and general stamina. Still not back to where I was pre broken toe. It still hurts so I may mention it to the doc.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

It was indeed Joyce. Just came in half an hour ago, as I'd finished what I was doing, and there was a huge bank of ominous clouds coming in. Skelping down now, andfeels like it could be thunder.y
I know I shouldn't say this but, the unpleasant man who objected to a neighbour last year telling off his brats and turned up at her door giving her grief, has just gone past with his dog and brat out for their 'run', and I'm hoping he gets well caught in it.....
Naughty fairy
We'll just shout at you next time Dove
That's a long time you've had issues with your foot/feet Obelixx. Worth checking - certainly.
Managed to catch a pic of a nice little caterpillar (not sure what it is but hopefully someone will ID it ) and also the wren appeared on the back fence and I got a pic of him/her too. Will put them on the wildlife thread
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Obelixx, I now have an arthritic joint in a toe that was broken years ago. I find Voltarol Pain-eze Emulgel applied once a day is very effective, resulting in a pain free joint.
Yes, I know that sitting with my foot up has weakened back muscles which is why I shouldn't have gone at things like a bull in a china shop yesterday ... I've been in this situation before (with my knee) and know it will get better with a bit of time and being sensible
Sky has an ominous grey/yellowish hue ... not sunset yellow ... looks more stormy ... think we've got some rain on the way.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Can I say here and now that there are some things in life that just happen which makes you really smile....Pat posted a cartoon Footrot Flats and I was intrigued so I went off and did some digging and what I found was amazing ....I have a very specific sense of humor and this is just up my alley thank you Pat .... http://www.footrotflats.com/the-cartoonist
Incidentally I am a big Far Side fan even though Gary Larson stopped many years ago I have all his books
This is still one of my favorites of all time ...and who can remember the controversy it caused ?
Too many to pick from, but I always liked the one with the cows standing up chatting, then one shouts 'CAR' and they adopt the normal 'on four legs, eating' position until it goes by
I'm off to watch BakeOff since I was busy building last night....

Will do FG. I hope he gets a good soaking but feel sorry for the dog.
