Oooh Liri ... that stuff to clear out the innards is grim ... your OH has my sympathy image

I'm back from the physio and the exercises are very do-able ... one is done sitting down and tightens the hamstrings which we are trying to train to take over from my anterior cruciate ligament. The other involves standing on tip toes as often as possible and holding the position. Also cycling with toe clips on the pedals will be good, using the toe clips to pull the pedals up rather than relying on just pushing down. I've not been cycling to the shops much this year 'cos of damaged shoulder and then broken foot ...

If the exercises don't do the trick and the knee still keeps dropping me on the ground they'll probably operate but it won't be fun and will involve a long recuperation image

Good that the exercises are OK, Dove, hope they work.

Daughter has gone home, but we will be seeing them again on Sunday. Having lunch with them and son 1 who lives 5 hours away will be there, staying for the weekend.

Hi SGL!  Thank you very much for your suggestions.  The voucher sounds a really good idea - must get on to my son about which hairdresser she likes.  image

Dove, our daughter had the same tests (in Ireland) a couple of months ago, so OH knows what to expect...  image

How clear is clear soup supposed to be?  I've just made a "tasty" chicken stock with the carcase plus various veg, then strained it through my finest flour sieve.  It has no visible bits but you can't see through it... will it be a problem, I wonder?

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Liri. I can hardly see straight for tears of laughter in my eyes. Hubby just played for me the Billy Connolly -Colonoscopy skit. He recommends you get your OH to watch it. Billy suggests keeping the toilet roll in the fridge.imageimageimage

One way to clarify soup is to beat 2 egg whites until frothy then tip them into the boiling soup, turn off heat and wait for the egg whites to rise. They will have absorbed a lot of the cloudiness. Scoop them out then re-strain the soup. But I haven't done it for years. Nowadays I think what matters is taste more than looks.

I decided long ago when I was still working full time that clear consommé was a "life is too short" faff so have never done it but I suspect you need Busy's tip to clarify yours Liri.   I cheat and buy jars of clear stock for chicken, game and fish when I need it.  At least, I did in Belgium but have not found it here.  Good for hot and sour soup bases.

I have been to the hairdresser this morning!  Haven't had a professional cut for years apart form a trim a year ago.   My hair is dead straight apart form a wee "devil's horn" of curl that sometimes appears at my temples and is fine but thick.  I've gone for a long, layered look so I can still tie it up when I'm gardening and need to see.   She's back-combed it!  but the massage was lovely and the cut seems good. have to wait and see what comes up when I wash out all the products and back-combing.

Off to see another local garden today and then preserving quinces tomorrow in a spiced syrup.  Chili jam to make too.   Started misty, got sunny but has now clouded over and we have wet air.  Not enough to be a drizzle.  Brightening up again later.

FB - good to have you back.  Hols sound good.   Pat - have you collected yourself now?  Glad the horse seems happy Busy.  Good luck with the exercises Dove.   Hope they work.  Hosta, what are you hacking today?  Clari - will they really use the chuck stuff or should you keep it?

    Have a good afternoon everyone.
