Our version of the nuthatch is much more shy; I've never seen one feeding from someone's hand in Britain - robins are relatively easy to "tame" here though.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

    Hello Obelixx,

It didn't take much time at all to get the Chickadees, Red Breasted Nuthatches and Downy Woodpeckers to feed from my hand.  But the larger White Breasted Nuthatches are very timid and rarely feed from my hand. The one taking a seed from my hand while clinging to the tree trunk is a bit funny. He/she always calls me over and then it's got to take a pew pecks at my thumb nail before selecting it's seed.
The little Downy Woodpecker is the Mr.(red feathers on the head), the Mrs. is usually there also but they get into a screeching match if they both land on my hand at the same time. They escort me along their stretch of the river. I also carry a suet block just for them.

The only semi tame bird for me is the usual Robbin but some pictures from my snowy garden last week. The Fieldfare has gone now it's eaten all the apples :'(

    AB Still learning

  • We had a very friendly local fox at my last house, who we left scraps out for each night. After watching him for a while, I noticed he was developing quite a bad patch of mange on a hind leg. My housemates and I got some mange treatment and laced his food with a few drops each night. Lo and behold, I caught him in the daylight a few weeks later and was delighted to see such wonderful progress in his fur re-growth!

We have Blue Tits nesting under our rooftiles at the moment. They are busy little things bringing in all sorts of food for the chicks every couple of minutes. They look a bit ragged with all the effort.

They seem fond of these crab spiders.

Its not all meat, some seeds and nuts go in too.

The robins also have nests in the garden. This one has figured out how to get into the caged seed feeder.

This one is a little more of a problem as I was hoping to plant out some rose cuttings but she would munch them.

Lovely photos harmony. Those little shield bugs are gorgeous   :)
I happened to look out the front window yesterday, just in time to see Dad Sparrow and his two young 'uns on the little gate....

The one at the back's getting seriously hacked off .... :D

Dad....Dad...where are you with our tea?

    DAD!!!

He nipped round the back to the feeder and came back with more grub for them after a quick dip in the pond.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
