Busy pottering with pots this morning but ran out of potting compost so stopped and made lunch. Then, all cleaned and showered we headed off for a fair displaying artisans of house and garden restoration and creation. Found a couple of plants we liked including a lemon tree with headily scented flowers but decided not to buy cos it was just too flipping hot to carry stuff. Luckily, the nursery is only 5km from here so we can go next week.
OH bought himself a selection of artisanal beers on the way out.
Once rehydrated and cooled I shall put a chicken in the oven to cook while we walk the dogs together.
Busy - I've put a few photos on the Vendée thread for you. Nice too get a cuddle.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I've got through almost all of my windfall apples now, just the last 2kg batch left to deal with. I think they may become spiced apple jelly as they are eaters so a stronger apple flavour than the cookers. So far I've got mint jelly (yum), basil jelly (delish), sage jelly (meh), lemon verbena jam (very nice), hedgerow jelly (lovely), lime and lemon jelly (OH's second favourite so far), and cider apple butter (OH thinks I don't know he keeps eating spoonfuls on his way past). It is particularly tasty. That's enough jam and condiments to last us to about 2025 I reckon

Evening all. Reading backwards but stopped already as just noticed raisingirl had made lemon verbena jam... I bought this plant last week and have been meaning to look at some recipe ideas - so I love the sound of that.
Just doing the post-roast sofa flop, catching up on forum and looking if anything decent on the box.
Loads of buzzards around here too . We regularly get them keening overhead, especially youngsters in late summer, until the crows mob together and hunt them off. The b***ers. I love them, and see them so often, but it's always a thrill. I call them all Bob, after the character (Bob Buzzard) in a tv prog years ago - A Very Peculiar Practice
Hope everyone has enjoyed their Sunday roast. Something I never do, as we're rarely all here, especially if the girls are at their Dad and I'm walking. As it's been such a lousy wet day, I made a steak pie - with mashed potato to keep younger fairylet happy. The other one is at ComicCon....dressed as some person in black leather, complete with her acrylic sword which caused my problems last weekend
You sound like you had a quieter day BL. If you can call lots of little 'uns quiet
I gave in and put the heating on for twenty minutes a while ago. It doesn't feel that cold outside - it's been about 13 or 14, but the house was cold. Must be getting soft in my old age.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Not too cold here - I know the heating hasn't switched itself on this evening because the cat's curled up on my knee, rather than stretched out on the radiator shelf.
I had a productive afternoon in the garden, demolishing runner beans and supports, accompanied by a hungry robin. The sweet peas were going, too, but have had a reprieve for a week or two cos there are still a few flowers.

You can't beat lemon verbena tea - OH can't have caffeine and I'd say this is his favourite option of all the possibilities in the garden for fresh herbals. I use sprigs of it when I bottle the blackcurrants and I rarely pass it without picking a leaf to sniff - one of my favourite scents in the garden.
But mine is really big now - I didn't get round to pruning it in spring as you're supposed to so it's a 5 foot monster this year . My NDN took a load of cuttings from it a couple of weeks back and says they have taken well. But there was still loads of fresh leaf on it, and I had all these windfall cooking apples to use, so I basically made a batch of apple jelly with a big handful of lemon verbena in the initial pulp cooking and a couple of tablespoons finely chopped stirred into the jelly as it cooled, just before potting it. It does actually taste of lemon verbena, too

Morning all when you wake.
hubby is home today. The fire is still going. The wind is extremely irritating. Mostly coming in strong gusts.
we both slept very heavily last night. (No wonder I’m on anti anxiety medication).

Hope Dove is triaged successfully
Morning all/afties Pat. Hope that fire settles soon.
Up to take daughter to work for 7am. Very foggy outside as well as dark chicky.
Cuppa first then I'll be off.
