Phew!Knitted vest off and just shirt on the top in the garden this afternoon. I can’t remember when that last happened. I’ve also raked out a bucket full of coals from the wood heater which is not lit for the first time since Easter.

Ive been in the garden for hours today. Did some more rose pruning until my wrist was giving up with the secateurs and then transplanted some tomato seedlings into larger pots and settled them into the GH. I also had punnets of perpetual spinach, basil, and mixed lettuce which needed pulling apart and put into individual pots.  They will have to live in the GH until I’m sure the frosts have stopped.

Chicky, Im glad your daughter is exploring other cities. Sounds good.

  • Hello all!

Glad you're having a warm gardening day Pat - it sounds as if you've made the most of it.  image

Oh dear, LilyP.  Hope the naughty dog hasn't suffered any ill effects... but what will you have with your macaroni?

Hopefully the clinic have done something for your poorly toe, Dacha.

Just eaten the last of the blueberries with my morning muesli.  They've done really well this year - one fruit which needs very little in the way of tender loving care in my garden, and therefore very welcome.  As long as I pick the fruit before it's soft, I get there before the birds; they ripen in a day or two on the kitchen bench.  The cranberries which grow as ground cover beneath them had loads of fruit on, but as usual it's all disappeared before it was ripe.  I suspect voles...

A nice story of island life from our son, who's just had a week at the cottage.  They'd booked the taxi to transport the four of them (son, DIL and 2 friends) from the ferry to the cottage.  They would normally have walked, but DIL is 7 months pregnant and a bit tired.  The taxi wasn't there; they waited 10 minutes for it, then rang the taxi driver (who is also the island's plumber).  He was still on the mainland, having popped over for plumbing supplies and missed the ferry.  He was full of apologies.  "Do you see my landrover in the corner of the carpark?" he asked.  "The keys are in it.  Drive yourselves round to the house, then one of you come and collect me from the next ferry..."

Liri aren't the islands wonderful? I have had fish left in a bag on the hut door or in a pail on the jetty, brace of pheasants left without request and duck hanging in my garage!

Hope dil enjoys the peace of the island and your lovely house

Naughty dog seems fine if a little sheepish, other one positively gloating and demanding lots of cuddles. So, we are now having pasta tuna bake for dinner ?
