My barrel pond had been getting progressively cloudier for a good few weeks but since removing some floating flora, it's cleared up a lot. Took a look this evening and saw a number of these swimming about.
I only set the pond up a few months ago so I'm stupidly happy about this!
Malaria was prevelant in the UK until the 1950s and its decline is associated with the post-war draining of wetlands. With the current move to increase wetland area, ponds and wildlands, together with globably heating, it's likely this may give rise to increasing mosquito numbers and possible increase of mozzie-borne diseases again.
@Papi Jo Fantastic, I didn't know we had praying mantis in Europe. Love how the females are physically stronger than males and can kill them. Complete contrast to our human society.

Re excitement about wildlife ponds we just found our first frog in ours. It’s only been made since April so we were delighted to find the frog ……never seen oh so thrilled about anything !
