This beautiful specimen of Lucanus cervus (male) (European stag beetle) was walking quietly on my lawn. I had plenty of time to take his picture from several angles. Who says a well-tended garden and lawn are bad for biodiversity?
I wouldn't dream of it😳. However, somewhere beyond the boundary is a rotting stump and it has been there for many years. We used to have loads of them until someone destroyed their habitat .
Any bee experts who can verify this one for me? I'm really hoping it's a Fork-tailed flower bee but it wasn't very keen on sitting still long enough to have its photo taken. The size of a small bumblebee, bright yellow face, fast and noisy, with lovely eyes.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
