Papi jo they are anemones bought the bulbs on a whim in a supermarket and they have been stunning this last couple of weeks. Red and white I don’t seem to have any purples.

love the fairy moths such delicate little things.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

It was a case of spot the butterfly but when I did, I thought it was a Monarch - like my logo!
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

Photos will sadly never capture how amazing it looks when you get a group of them dancing in the dappled sunight. This is only the third time I've ever seen them.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Totally agree, @wild edges , a host of them dancing in the light is a truly amazing and unforgettable show! First time I saw them I had no idea what they were, didn't think they were moths. Although this is far from being an "insect of the day", I'm posting some photos of a couple I took almost 10 years ago, in the countryside. Please note the male has much longer antennas than the female.
They are rather difficult to shoot, as they are always on the move. So, congrats to you, @wild edges

You really captured the irridescence on the wings there @Papi Jo , I don't think I've ever seen a female actually.

Todays insect is a hoverfly on my new kalanchoe. Not very exciting but the leaf structure made it a nice photo.

Unidentified fly of the day, resting on a rose of my R. 'Celina' aka rose flower carpet Yellow SunshineType.

  • The hoverfly Heliophilus pendulus, of which there have been quite a few in my garden recently. The stripes on the thorax give it a particularly smart appearance. The larvae are rat-tailed maggots, found in the edges of ponds and ditches.

I like the one in the second picture, is it a moth? Ours is a bubble bee, my son took on the salvia.
