Dove, went to the builders' merchant and brought some sand home and filled a few sandbags. I'll go back in the morning and get the rest and see how we get on.

Hosta , I know exactly how you feel , our dacha is on a lakeside and after snow and ice melt after every winter we have faced flooding more than once.

You say "The water level on the lake ( 0.8acre) has risen 6" / 150mm since this morning. The storm drains which feed into it are running with force and there's a bit of soil movement on the retaining bank!!"

May I ask how you know that there has been soil movement as this is very important , have you put a marker in the ground or anything else . We always have lots of sand bags close by and it is good that you have some prepared here is one of the best clips I have seen

Dove; they're from the muck company. I went on a walk tonight to bed them in and see where if anywhere they catch (I don't have the best sensation for my feet).

We'll see how they are after 9 hours in them tomorrow!

That"s an amazing price for wellies Clari.  I hope they're good and don't rub you up the wrong way.   I do love wellies.

Hosta - that sounds a bit too exciting.  Hope all goes well.

Does anyone know a rain dance?   Lots of lovely wet looking clouds around but all sailing straight past.

Liri, glad you had a pleasant journey. Dumfries and Galloway is lovely as is S Ayrshire a few miles up from Cairnryan.. . . I may be slightly biased of course. Enjoy your holiday with daughter.

Hosta, hope rain stops for you for a few weeks to let you suss out the situation.

Ob; I've brought cars for less than I spent on those wellies. They'd best not wear out too quickly!

Clari, with walking Reggie in the winter you should get your money's worth out of them.

Comfort is everything where feet are concerned.  I would be fine if I could go barefoot all the time.

Lovely boots Clari - deep envy here - can't get nice wellies to fit - in steps too high and calves too curvy - duh.

Joyce - it was going barefoot all the time ghat led to my Plantar fasciitis.

    Hosta ... Take care!  ((Hugs)).

Wonky rang earlier ... She had her 3 month appraisal today ... They want to keep her image
