Glad you've heard from her, Hosta. The problem with London is its a trap - you earn more working there and even though you sort of know it costs more as well it can be hard to break the cycle and to see that you can have a better standard of living earning less money outside the capital. It can be a bit of a leap to do it before you reach retirement age.
The police and other services are astonishing though. Hats off to people who run in to danger.

Hi hosta my son worked in London for years but has now moved to Brighton. He works in Brighton but his housemates actually find it easier and cheaper to commute to London from Brighton than to live in London and travel to work? crazy isn't it? Brighton isn't cheap but so much nicer than our capital city so maybe your daughter should think about it. Best thing my son ever did
I love London ❤️ Lived and worked there for 10 years in my twenties. Then chicklets came along and the urge for a garden and a driveway took over . But love the fact that I know my way round, and still enjoy my day trips there. Their spirit will not be dampened.
Good day in the garden - pots finally planted, lots of little pots in the ground - ready for the forecast deluge tomorrow.
Finished the day off with a trot round Hindhead common - so now I've earned my glass of wine.
Hello all. Just back from York, concert was well received and a goodly sum was raised for the local charity (helping child refugees from the Calais camp).
So glad you heard from your daughter, Hosta. I'm in the "hate London" camp; having been brought up within striking distance, I appreciate the benefits (fab museums and galleries among them), but learned in my early twenties that life was much more pleasant and relaxed elsewhere. And you can still buy a house in this neck of the woods for £40k; that might get you a doorstep in Knightsbridge...
Congratulations on the greenhouse, Bob the G. Sounds great.
We're leaving horribly early on Tuesday morning, so everything must be ready by bedtime tomorrow, including watering things and filling the bird feeders.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Spent my early 20s living just off Baker Street and working in Soho (selling books and then computing) and very much enjoyed myself but it was cheaper and easier and freer then and nothing like as crowded and dirty or stressy to work and commute. Moved out to Blackheath which was great and then Harrow because the office moved there and that was great too but now I like open spaces and clean air and hate the filth and overcrowding in the Tube and in the streets. These days I only go for Chelsea and that's not every year.
Public holiday tomorrow - Whitsun - so h****work and gardening. I have baby cosmos and cavolo nero and flower spouts to nurture and still more stuff to plant. We're supposed to have rain tomorrow pm.
Have a great trip Liri and well done for the fund raising. Good cause.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

We went to visit 2 friends gardens today in the Open gardens scheme and we met DD - just leaving as we arrived at the second one. Meant to tell her how nice her hair was looking, soft with blond highlights.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

On a lighter note:
I've just been looking at tickets for Tosca in Plymouth. Hubby now qualifies for concessionary tickets as he's over 60.
I'm not sure if he's thrilled or horrified.

Enjoy your Finland trip Liri
I don't think there's much chance of your plants drying out next week.
Having problems getting on the site again and haven't been able to read back either, amazed that at last I can type something, wonder if it will post.
Well I can read it BL
Spent the evening watching the Manchester concert. Jolly good show ... Good for them all
Of to bed now ... Have a peaceful night everyone ((hugs))
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
So pleased your daughter is OK Hosta.
