Debs ... at least HM is showing the politicians what's needed ........ however they just don't seem to get it It's going to come back to bite them ........
Yes that's why they earn obscene wages, we employ them to run the country and frankly if I did such a poor job I would expect to be fired!
HM does a wonderful job cheering up those in need and will have brightened up a few lives in their darkest hours, I felt her comments were thoughtful and supportive and as close as she can get to telling politicians to sort themselves out!
Hear! hear! Debs ... it's about empathy and reassuring people, who feel that their fears and warnings have been ignored for so long in the past, that they matter and will be listened to.
I used to work for our local authority ... we had regular disaster planning and teams ready to leap into action at a moment's notice .... it seems that Kensington and Chelsea borough council have still do provide any leadership or reassurance that the survivors and dispossessed will have a roof over their heads next week.
The government has all sorts of Disaster Emergency Committees and loads of policies ... what does it take to get someone to take a lead?

Quite, but if all the Government did was offer kind words (I'm not arguing that they could have done that much) they would still - rightly - be criticised. That is all HM has to do and if she can't manage that on her (much higher) salary then what is she for? I'm not sure how the GLA are ducking the bad publicity - they have control over building regs across London and could have imposed tighter rules on London tower blocks if they had chosen to. They are far more immediately able to act to kick RBKC into action on the ground. What exactly are they doing? Yes the Government is struggling to react, but there's no point making it a witch hunt. The failures that caused this run right through local, regional and national government but mostly through the construction industry in the widest sense. Once all the shouting and pointing is done, it'll turn out to be a failure of that industry (my industry) to prioritise safety or to seriously consider the occupiers of the buildings and the way that people behave in an emergency and not Governments that caused the problem and can solve the problem.
And then you can point at all the Tory grandees who have made their money from property and ask them what they are going to do about the cost of fixing it.

I believe that some of the blame will be found to lie with the farming out of responsibility for management of social housing to private companies, along with the relaxation and privatisation of responsibility for building work inspections.
These changes have been down to the policies of successive UK governments in their continued mission to disempower local authorities by the radical reduction of their budgets, year after year.

In their attempts to cut costs, people will cut corners. The penalties need to be more severe but unfortunately in this case, as in every case, sorry is too late.

All true. Building Control is almost toothless now. The partial privatisation of Building Control has been disastrous for built quality - that was one of Maggie's bright ideas, wasn't it?
The big contractors have massive lobbying power. Many MPs are thoroughly entwined in them. They didn't like all the regulation diminishing their profits so they got it removed. The fact that Central Government could as a consequence save money by reducing funding for LAs was a reason they took it on so happily but I doubt they thought of it. I doubt 'they' know enough about how it all works to have come up with the idea.

No one expects HM to actually DO anything though so the bar is set a bit lower.

How do I get my product CE certified?
There are different steps for manufacturers :
Identify the EU requirements for your product. ...
Check whether your product meets the specific requirements. ...
Check whether your product must be tested by a Notified Body. ...
Test your product. ...
Compile the technical dossier. ...
