However we must be realistic here. If all that happens in a British drought is our beloved plants withering we ought to be greatful we don't live and starve in the drought ridden Horn of Africa.
Huh, I will believe it when I see it, had a bout 4 spots the other day, 5 water butts, empty! Filled 2 up from my bottom greenhouse at the weekend, which is by my veg plot. Shot out after the few showers thought I would get some gardening done haha, it was dry as a bone the next day. forecast on BBC1 yesterday morning said I would get a shower.
I love the saying. " There's now't so strange as folk"
Yes I agree with what's been said. However in an attempt to lighten the tone. We look out one day at dry, parched gardens. Please Lord, can we have some rain. Our prays are heard and next day.....we look out. Oh heck! It's pouring down, then perhaps the followings day. Oh no, it's raing again. There's now't so strange as folk.
You are of course right Mike. We're a fickle lot and no doubt if we do get rain, as you say we'll be whinging about it and praying for sunshine within a day or two. Plants generally adapt though don't they, just send their roots down deeper
The one plant I have which isn't coping well is Astilbe. Whilst other plants battle on, these droop badly and need regular watering. They're not new plants, they've been in several years.
According to our most recent forecast we will have rain in the next 24 hours - as I am one of the most southerly contributors on here - I will give you an update tomorrow - will it or won't it rain? We actually had quite a bit of rain on Saturday last and previous to that on the Bank Holiday Monday 10 days ago, so our water butts are now full. The forecasters did say that April would have been one of the driest since pre war - but on the 29th/30th we had a month's worth of rain in 24 hours.
Our once established UK climate patterns have been seriously affected by man made climate change since the industrial revolution. Be afraid! Be very afraid .

It should rain on Friday, from the south moving up the UK. Might get some thunder storms in the West.
So far it's been a very dry year, rivers and lakes are down.

Oh for goodness sake! Who caused the drought in 76 and what about the months of snow in the 60s - Khrushchev?

False news, false news. Where's Donald when you need somebody to tell the unadulterated truth??
