Hope you have a lovely time, Chicky.  We hope for photos...  image

Hi Kayleigh!  Welcome.  No reason why gardening should be reserved for old fogeys... I started with sowing carrot seeds with my Dad when I was 5, and have always loved gardening since.  Now I'm one of the old fogeys...  image  Your little lad will no doubt see your love of the garden and enjoy helping as he gets a bit older.  Happy days to come.

Obelixx, I'm sure you're right about the pieris producing new shoots.  It's happened before, and no doubt will happen again...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

You too Chicky :-D. It is exciting. Feels like it's a never ending task with the garden being left in such a horrendous condition though! I think the ground it made up of more rubble than soil :-(.

I have got LOTS of different plants. I have quite a few hostas, toad lilies, Asiatic lilies, regal lilies, lupins, budleias, dahlias, begonias, day lilies, lots of ornamental grasses (although, my favourite "Elijah Blue" doesn't seem to be doing well at all... can't see any new growth, it just looks dead. This was my favourite as my little boy's name is Elijah :-D). Indoors, I've got amaryllis, begonia rex, dracaena, pitcher plant, about 12 different cacti and a beautiful black calla lily to name a few. I've also got a little greenhouse with a few in there at the minute, including some fuchsias, chrysanthemum (seems to be coming back, left it in my unheated greenhouse over winter :-/), I have a collection of carnivorous plants as well, which I'm quite obsessed with!!

    What's your favourites??? :)

    Liriodendron, thank you :).

He gets so involved already! He brings his little watering can to me and just says "water". It's very cute! Apart from when he stands watering his shoes! Ahh well, he's trying!

I can't wait to get him involved with nature and the outdoors. It's my favourite place to be :-D

I like the ones with names of Special people too - have got lots of those.  More difficult with men, so Mr C is represented with a couple of Big Daddy Hostas instead - a fathers day present from the chicklets about 15 years agoimage.  I like roses, peaonies, delphiniums, phlox .......anything cottage gardeny is a hit with me.

Gotta get some sleep now .....see you all bright and early tomorrowimage

And don't worry Liri....there will be pics image

    Morning peeps.

Just been for a daylight wander round the garden to try and assess the frost damage ......there's a lot looking sad - hydrangea leaves, japanese ferns, camellias.......too early to tell how the wisteria flower buds have fared.  Not a pretty sightimage.  No doubt all will recover, but it all looks very sad at the moment.

In other news, my bags are packed, I'm ready to go.......just need to go find a jetplane image (my Mum was a big John Denver fan, so I grew up to that soundtrackimage)

    Morning all.

Forecast said +2° but it's -2° now and there's a frost. GH heater is on and cold frames are covered but outdoor dahlias aren't, they are already frosted anyway. There hasn't been a frost at the end of April for several years, but this year it seems worse as we had such warm weather before and everything was growing so fast, a good 2 weeks early. I've never seen buddleias look so droopy after a frost. But one year I hosted a strawberry cream tea for charity the last weekend in May and the tables were set outside. The temperature suddenly dropped to 2° and it sleeted. People still talk about it!

Baby sitting for son this morning. His wife is having an echography. Baby due in 2 weeks.

Just read back to the top of the page. Hello and welcome Kay. I loved gardening when I was your age. My first daughter was born when I was 24. My lovely Mother-in-law helped start me off and advised on plants.

Good morning everyone image Welcome aboard Kayleigh, looking forward to hearing the progress of your new garden. I've been gardening since I was a child too  and my daughter grew up helping me. Now she's married with her own garden and a new job as a gardener on a big country estate ... Gardening all day, every day!

Hosta (( hugs)) hope the doc can come up with something.

Chicky, have a great trip :-)

sympathies to all whose gardens have suffered from the recent cold snap. I think that here we've escaped fairly lightly ... But I've not checked for hail damage  ...
