    Morningimage

Sorry to hear so many of our number are still in the Land of Lurgy. Hope yours is just a cold Joyce - you have enough on your plate without being really poorly as well.

It is cold here isn't it Wonky? But I noticed yesterday that my snowdrops were up (if not out) and I think it's only 6 weeks on Saturday until the clocks go forward so we are starting to emerge from the depths of winter - if only the weather forecast would play ball too!

Many domestic duties to attend to - but first a visit to the bottle bank to a make a very (un)healthy deposit...image

  • I don't know if any of you have had experience of trying to book hospital appointments through NHS Confidential, the centralised phone/online system?  In January my optician referred me for a routine ophthalmic outpatients appointment.  I got the paperwork through from NHS Confidential, with booking number, password, and list of suggested hospitals.  Our GP practice has an outpatients department which was on the list, so I chose it, since it's a 10 minute walk away, rather than requiring several buses like all the other options.  The efficient lady on the phone at NHS Confidential said my chosen option hadn't released any appointments, but that the GP practice would contact me by 27th Jan with an appointment.  They didn't.  I rang them - no, the appointment comes direct from NHS Confidential.  I re-rang NHS Confidential.  No, the appointment will come from your GP.  Contact them if you haven't heard by 3rd Feb.

Of course, no appointment arrived by 3rd Feb.  I went to the main desk at the surgery; they sent me to Outpatients.  You've guessed it... they said the appointment would come direct from NHS Confidential...  luckily this time I was armed with a computer printout from NHS Confidential saying "Your selected clinic will contact you..."

At least they could confirm that I'm "in the system" and will therefore get an appointment eventually, from someone or other.  The earliest appointment anywhere in the NHS trust my surgery belongs to, is the end of May.  I guess mine will be some time in the autumn... I don't mind waiting, I just wish the right hand knew what the left hand was doing.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Joyce sorry to hear you are not well, you are doing what I do sleep it off. Up here we would be saying "can us giv ee a hand Pet, love, dear" but it is now banned by the descrimination police? I am afraid they would get very short measure from people here, it is the normal form of address when we meet or in shops my cleaning lady and I are on such terms and the window cleaning lady yesterday "I have no change my love will be back in an hour" and she was, "Sorry about the delay darling here is your chage" no offence meant or taken.

So get well soon pet, it sounds much friendlier to us a normal wish.

Over the last three months every one I know all the family and me had that lurgi yet the papers are not screaming as they normally would, The UK brought to its knees by flu, they normaly blame Asia, must be too intent on what Prisident Trump will do next?

There have been announcements of French radio about the flu epidemic that has hit hard and early this year and asking people only to go to A&E for real emergencies, to see their pharmacist if they can and to stay at home and not cough and sneeze over everyone else plus regular, thorough washing of hands several times a day and after sneezing or coughing and before meals.   Seems like common sense to me.

I do hope it doesn't get too serious Joyce and everyone else newly suffering and still suffering.

Liri - that sounds like a nightmare.

I have several Bishops and an After Eight to pot up along with some freesias for my cut flower garden.  They arrived this pm from Promesse des Fleurs - ordered Monday evening so very quick service.   We've had to go and do a raid to buy potting and sowing compost so now I can go and play.

    Afternoon all.

No bargains at B&M, but picked up some sweet peas in Lidl for 29p a packet.

Pottering in the garden for the rest of the day. Hardly a cloud in the sky all day. A wee bit chilly but hardly any wind so nice enough to work in.

Well.  Not a singe suitable potting pot or tray in my stores.  Will just have to go shopping again tomorrow.   They need to be kitten proofed too.   I've just removed Minstrel from the top shelf of my open pantry racks where she was perched on the Xmas cake and playing with the tin foil wrap.

I even looked in the ruin to see if there was anything I could adapt.  No, but lots of holey bricks for a future insect house and 2 distressed bikes and a solid wood table that I can maybe clean up and do something shabby chic.

Enjoy yourself Hosta but don't catch a chill.   Dove - yes, tiring but fun and rather liberating.

Dove; the electricity was off at work so his lordship can't be blamed! We didn't get it back until 22:30 it having been off since before 08:00.

Fortunately it was on for my school visit so all is well again... til the snow warnings start.
