We've just moved here from Belgium so my kitchen stuff has already been sorted and thinned.  Loads left but all wanted, for now.  Just have to pack it all up again for the duration.   Oh well.  As you say, it'll be worth it.

About to do roast spatchcocked chuck with spiced butter under the skin.  I shall have to crisp the skin under the grill at the end and cook the roast sweet potatoes in the combi oven if I want crispy bits.

Our promised deluge hasn't happened.  Maybe tomorrow.  After that we're expecting heavy frosts for a few days - heavy for here that is at about -6C. - but it will be sunny so I can play out in the pms if I want to.

    Afternoon allimage

We were up at crack of sparrows to drive to Skegness to collect OH's 'new' toy. It's a 'vintage' electric organ and it's ginormous - weighs a ton - and we had to call on a poor, unsuspecting neighbour to help us unload it - far too heavy for me to be involved with.

I'm assured it was a steal, a real bargain etc etc - hmm image. He had one (and was quite proficient) when a teenager - but I needed to know there was a headphones socket for silent playing before I agreed to the purchase. Fortunately it fits very neatly (with about 1cm to spare) in an alcove in the (rarely used) dining room so it's not really in the way & I won't have to look at it too often.

I happen to know he quite fancies a drum kit as well - hopefully this purchase might put that idea on hold....

Next purchase for this household is a new wheelbarrow for me. I shall take him shopping on Fridayimage

Found an excellent farm shop on the way back so stocked up with some good meat and really fresh fenland veg. I'll be cooking chicken liver and mushroom pilaf in a while - yum

Topbird - not a Hammond is it? image

OHs coq au vin was stupendous - a huge step up for him cookery-wise but the result is great and plenty left for tomorrow. image

    Not a Hammond Dove image

Hope he doesn't end up sounding like Mrs Mills, Bobby Crush or Wally on his Wurlitzer at the Burlington Hotel, Yarmouth circa 1974image

He's tried a bit of classic church organ stuff - much more my cup of teaimage

    Coq au vin sounds greatimage

This afternoon we went to the "City" - as Dove calls it, to the Cathedral to an Epiphany service. There is something special about a magnificent Cathedral with a soaring ceiling, a huge organ, a cantor and a choir. There was lots of singing and Carols.

Now I must go and see to the partridge which is nearly cooked.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

GWRS I'm feeling a little lacking with Sherlock this time. Can't put my finger on it. Very rushed and not as well thought out as before.

I foolishly put dinner on as OH said he would be home for 19:30. I tried to cleverly time it to give him 15 minutes to be delayed / have a shower / sit down and say hello.

It's now 19:38 and he's only just setting off. Dinner will be at least half an hour later than anticipated.

Trouble is it all smells so good now. Maybe the dog and I can eat it. He'll be fine on beans and toast; right?

  • Dovefromabove I had never even heard of a gender reveal cake until my daughter said she was having one, but I rather liked the idea. Any excuse for a slice of cake.image

Busy-lizzie, daughter is our only one. so yes, me and OH are first time grandparents. imageShe's 31 now and been with her OH for 14 years. I was beginning to think she was never going to have one.

image10th and 11th grandchild on the way blimey, lots of cake for you in May then. How do you remember all their names. There are quite a lot on  daughters OHs side of the family. conversations do get confusing at times when she mentions names. It gets my head all in a spin.I don't know who's who. I've never been very good at remembering names. I'm better at remembering faces.

fairygirl  cake was very nice and moist ,I'm afraid its all gone now. It didn't last very long.image

    Hello all!

What a lot of interesting chat...  glad to hear the lurgy is slowly departing.  image  And the Sunday lunches/dinners sound mouthwateringly good!

Topbird, it sounds as if you deserve a new wheelbarrow.  And perhaps a pair of ear defenders for, ahem, protecting yourself from excessive noise...  image

Lovely news, Paula; after 14 years you must have been wondering.  Grandchildren are a blessing, but we had to wait for ours too, and tell ourselves we had no RIGHT to expect to be grandparents.  Not our choice to make.  (Great cake too, Paula!  In my opinion, any excuse is good enough to make a cake - birthdays, anniversaries, too-long-since-we-last-had-cake days...)

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
