Tell me about it Clari..... the tales I could tell! Even have had children arrive with ....makeup on...to hide the spots!! I 'm self employed ,so I too don't get paid for hours not worked......tough isn't it?

its snowing heavily here but the road is still reasonably clear. I hear the M74 is closed southbound nearby. We just have to get the woofies to kennels then tidy up a bit and we are off!! I think Heathrow may have snow later then we head to heavy snow in Moscow tomorrow. Hoping flights nto delayed
stay safe and warm in this cold blast

Clari re what your boss wants.....It's not his call to decide how ill you feel! And how your workplace sorts itself out when your not there isn't either!!! You owe it to yourself and your OH to look after yourself.......no one else will!
... But when times is hard and there's no sick pay ... It's wrong that you're put in that position. When I worked with vulnerable youngsters we got sick pay at our full rate from the first day. SSP from the fourth day doesn't pay the bills. It's wrong

I read an article about the Parsi sky burials. ( I believe Freddy Mercury was fro a Parsi family) The bodies are left on a platform for the vultures but vultures are becoming rare in the area. The Parsi believe that bodies shouldn't contaminate land or water.
Hope your travelling goes ok, LilyP, and you have a wonderful time in (balmy) Russia.
Clari, I agree it's a difficult decision to stay at home when you're unwell but feel indispensible, but you need to do what is best for YOU, not your boss. And with regard to your lack of a contract - perhaps you need to join a union? It's your employer's legal obligation to provide you with a "Statement of Employment Particulars" within 2 months of starting work, even if the job is temporary. If they don't, they are liable for a hefty fine. (Your "contract" doesn't have to be written; a verbal agreement to give you employment still constitutes a contract - but the "statement" must be in writing.) Your boss can't wriggle out of this by saying the job is too varied and flexible to describe; when the Garden Centre where I worked (eventually) provided us with our Statements (5 years after I started work there!), they were fairly generally worded so we couldn't complain if we were moved, for example, from working with plants to labelling Christmas tat. However, it will pin down the hours you are paid for, your rate of pay, and the recognised grievance procedure. It might give your boss the kick up the backside he obviously needs, to stop taking you for granted. Good luck and get well soon!
Those snowdrops sound lovely, Chicky!
Hope Dove, BL and other poorly folk continue to improve. Looks like another sofa day from here...

Just phoned and postponed dental appointment I had for the beginning of next week - they agreed I should stay well away from them

I know what you mean Dove, but I still think it's really important to not spread unnecessary suffering on to others.
Morning all.
