  • Thank you both.

Hello aym280, those little birds are Chickadees.  I managed to get a couple videos of them and a woodpecker feeding out of my hand.

cute little bird. I have never seen one before. How did you manage to hold your camera / phone still? I can't even get my birds to eat my free food. I reckon they do it early in the morning as some of the fat balls have been pecked into ... I must be patient.  I am dying to have a bird-feeds-out-of-my-hand experience!

    See original post

I was surprised that I was so steady with the camera. No blurry pics at all this time.lol

What about your neighbours, do they feed birds? If there is plenty of food for them in the area, they may not be needing to look for more sources. But it does take time for birds to get use to a person being around. They watch you though, and eventually will connect you to full bird feeders.  Then they will get demanding and scold you when you come out later than usual to fill their feeders. Trust me on that!

  • I did a bit of research today. I'm going to try sunflower seeds in suet cakes. That keeps the birds on your hand longer.

Thank you aym, are you planning to move, it sounds like you would be happy to move as long as you could take most of your plants with you? We are lucky to have oaks in our garden, so many leaves this year, but a nice place to put a nest box. The wide box is for robins, we will be able to see the box from our window, fingers crossed ?
