Chicky more ((hugs)) from me too. Hope your Dad has a good recovery. I'm sure he'll be disappointed that he can't be home for Christmas but his health comes first.
Lizzie I didn't know about paying by 'phone either. I don't understand Oyster cards either.
Liri I hope your Mum is having a good day for your visit and am sure she'll enjoy her After 8's
LG, you've not been on here again, so far, so I assume you're cracking through the chores. Off to the vet's shortly for the annual boosters and health check.
BL - according to the Post Office spokesman on the radio this morning, the strike should not affect deliveries as these are done by Royal Mail which is now separate from the PO.
Obelixx - my friend in France says "Our Christmas birdie of choice would be a chapon which, as you know is an "arranged" cockerel. the very best (and hideously expensive) are from Bresse but Label Rouge are fine, third choice would be fermier , just meaning farmraised, they can be very good but it is more a matter of where you get them from. A poularde is, as you say simply a fattened chicken, I think over 120 days old at least. You can get Bresse, red label and fermier poulardes as well.
Should be moist and tender but of course it depends on how you cook it. Of course if you add truffles it helps!
Morning all, just up after a horrendous nights sleep....again! ?? (suffered with insomnia for years now) but there's the odd time when it really drives me mad?. Saying that I can't complain too much as I've just read about chickys dad and although he's in the best place, it's a shame he's not home for Christmas.☹️ Yes very slow paced out here in the "cuds" Busy....couldn't tell you last time I used iPhone ...(thinking of just getting rid) ?. LG, mum will most certainly love her chocolatey treats ?. Need second cup of tea as it's very cold and damp and misty here. ?
Just put away the last of the wine glasses used at the Carol Service. Will be getting them all out again for the local village Carol service, but that is a smaller affair.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Lesley, I confess I saw your message and felt very ashamed of myself . But have been choring (is that a word? It should be) ever since and am doing quite well. Just need to keep pottering on today, but am having a cup of tea right now.
I am an Oyster, live bus timetable, live train timetable, maps, Google calendar and Evernote junkie - they're all set up on the home screen of my phone (don't pay for parking though as don't havs a car to park). Pay for children's school trips, top up lunch fobs, see what homework is due in and get school reports all online. The phone aspect of my phone is used so rarely that if it actually rings I jump! However, I do insist on being in charge of what I do on my phone and when - not letting it control me. It is switched off and is left downstairs at night (very rare these days) and I keep push notifications to a minimum. All quite important in setting an example to my teenager. Among her friends (and her friends' parents) I'm seen as very strict!
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
Afternoon all. Funny morning so far. OH has had a bad night and slept in and then taken himself off to a doctor as his paw is swollen with gout. Normally it's his toe and a result of change of diet so we don't know why this has happened. Kittens had me awake early scatting about so I went down and let out the dogs for their morning constititutional and they both then followed me upstairs into kittenland. Not normally allowed upstairs but we're keen to get them introduced gently and where they feel safe. Rasta just wants to mother them and has been upstairs quite a lot "supervising" but Bonzo hasn't a clue whether to be frightened, worried, cautious or curious so does them all at once.
Chicky - sorry about your dad. Hope he recovers well. Liri - your present sounds perfect.
Our potential capon and poularde are from Challans which is a reputed poultry area and does organic, free range hens, guinea fowl and so on. Normal roasting chuck and GF have been delicious so far. Might try a capon for between Xmas and NY but Possum is insisting on our traditional duck breast with red wine and juniper berry sauce and gratin dauphinois.
Phones - apparently mine is smart but I only use it for phone calls and texts which I've only done since I got this model with a keyboard. OH uses his much more, including checking up on his virtual boat in the Vendée Globe. Apparently 440,000 others are doing this including 3 of the other 4 chaps in our dance class. He also does phone banking but not with our French account. It's odd here - in Belgium we had touch screens for doing withdrawals and other transactions, parking meters that read bank cards or can be paid by phone and no checks for the last 20 years. People like plumbers, electricians and other house services have card readers for payments.
Here we have to write checks and wait for an invoice, no touch screens and we have to lick stamps - when the PO has them!
I like to read papers, magazines and books when I travel unless I'm looking out the window watching the scenery or people watching - but then I don't commute any more.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Hope your Dad improves chicky. I know how worrying it is for you. x
Exactly the sort of situation your phone is needed. I don't use mine much, other than the odd text back and forth, or for an emergency. I really don't like them.
Joyce - what was your rant about? I couldn't see it. Hope all is ok. Yes, we were all on Landward, apart from one of the girls who was at a funeral. My youngest daughter was the good looking one..
They were great, and it was a good laugh, although they missed out Leanne's final comment of 'you've only another 4,999 to make now...'
Hope today is a little better doc. Soon be another year and there's longer days to look forward to. Keep going - we'll get you there x
Liri- I agree with LG. The right present is the one the recipient would like - regardless of value or size
Hope Pat is ok - she seems to have been struggling a little healthwise while I was a bit absent.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Hope that helps.
We're having a 'fattened chicken' so a Norfolk poularde - I'm going to use my https://www.andrewjamesworldwide.com/kitchen-c1/kitchen-accessories-c9/utensils-gadgets-c39/food-flavour-and-marinade-injector-p455 to inject thyme-infused melted butter into the breast, just to counteract any possible dryness - although we've had these chickens before and they've always been moist and tasty.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Thanks Dove, relief about Post Office.

Fairy It was on "So Resurrected" thread but glad to say I'm absolutely fine now.
Will have another look at Landward and try to guess which one you are
