Dull and grey here again and a light breeze waving the bamboo about a bit.    I'm on my first coffee.  OH kindly put a pot in ages ago but only got as far as the water.  No filter or coffee!   Says he got distracted by dogs.

A wee errand for me and then more picture hanging, cleaning and decs and then I have to try my first ever buche de Noël.  Possum wants one and neither of us shares OH's enthuiasm for Xmas pud.

I hope everyone is where they want to be.  Roads will be heaving today and lots of trains and stations cancelled or closed tomorrow for engineering.  Brilliant timing.  OH is fetching Possum from the airport at Nantes tomorrow morning.   Fingers crossed please for no strikes or alerts.

LP - I hope daughter and SIL have recovered from yesterday's trials and are all well and at home.

Pat - I hope it's not too hot today and you have a great time with the family.

Clary - OH training - our dogs' paws get washed and dried after a muddy or wet walk before they're allowed indoors!  Saves lots of muddy marks and grit and who knows what else.

I hope all those at the coalface have a good day and a well earned rest this evening.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Morning all/afties Pat. Glad you're a bit cooler. I suppose we don't always hear about the attacks that the services manage to foil, but thank goodness they do.

Very dark here, very wet and blowy,  but it's farther north and west that's getting the worst for now. Ferries cancelled etc. At present Big Babs is no worse than lots of winter weather here, but I believe it's later in the day it will strengthen as it moves east. I scared the robin when I went out to feed him earlier - he was hiding to keep out of the weather  image

LP - what a time your family is having just now. Glad they're all ok and hope they get a bit of peace in the next few days.

Hosta - doesn't surprise me at all. People are vile. We're all busy and have lots of things to do - but there's no excuse for that behaviour. Daughter told me they had to ban someone from the Asda she works in, for frequently abusing staff. She tells me so many stories and we end up using the Jack Jarvis phrase from Still Game and saying 'they're a***holes , Victor'. image

Good to see you doc. Nearly the turn of the year now - not long to go. image

Fairy - I think I'll drive up to you image   I don't fancy crossing the Fenwick Moor though, The wind is getting stronger and stronger since I got up at 5am and the rain is lashing down.

Good luck everyone who has to leave the house today. We're expecting the high winds later but worse will be the traffic.

Ob; I think I need to get a proffesional in. My efforts to train OH for even the simplest of tricks doesn't work.

Empty dishwasher; puts his bowl in the sink

Dog towel by the back door for wet feet; uses it to wipe his oily hands on

House in component form; does his best to avoid putting it back together at all costs

Darling partner dying of thirst; ignores all hints that just once a week it might be his time to make tea in bed...

Still at least he comes in handy for reaching the high things off shelves.

    Morning all.

Glad your daughter and baby got home safely and hope the nightmare journey will soon be a distant memory, Lily P.

Daughter 1 is arriving this afternoon with SIL and their 3 little boys. Then Son 1 is arriving late tonight with DIL and their 2 little girls. He's working today and they live 5 hours away. The other son and daughter and 4 grandchildren are coming for lunch tomorrow.

I must get a move on, the decorations aren't all up yet and there is cooking to do.

BL - I think you need to book yourself a holiday after all that - a week in a cabin by yourself perhaps! image

Aye Joyce - Fenwick Moor will be none too cheery right now! Daughter wants to do her weekly trip to Home Bargains and McDonalds later. Why do I get roped into these things.....image

Other daughter has work later, so I'll drop her off and it'll save her standing at a windswept, wet bus stop...and I get a free coffee out of it....image

They've just mentioned that foiled attack in Oz that Pat mentioned, on the radio. Good result.

I supppose I should do the other lights and greenery on the windows. Not sure I want to go and do the outside ones though.....image

Lizzie I don't know how you do it.  All those beds for a startimage.  It's all worth it to have the family together thoughimage

Fairy I wouldn't worry too much about the outside.  Are you off work till new year now?  Enjoy the free coffee.  I've just made another.  The woodpecker has just paid a visit and was on the feeders for 15 minutes hanging on as it swayed around.  Now the squirrel is on the nut feeder.  Like your robin the blackbirds are staying close to the wall near the back door for a bit of shelterimage

Lesley - a squirrel has taken refuge in a shrub!!  I will need to brave it to get bread and milk from the basement freezer (accessed from outside)  and top up the bird feeders
