I find that many people start Christmas early and finish early, too. My daughter will have her tree up and decorated next weekend, I expect, but it will all be cleared away before New Year's Day. When I was little we didn't bring in the tree until Christmas Eve but we hung on to it until every needle had dropped.
OH's birthday is the 7th of December so I tend not to think Xmas till afterwards. When Possum was small he liked to have the Xmas tree up in time for St Nicolas on the 6th (big event in Belgium with main prezzies for kids) but really he's a soppy git and wanted it for his birthday.
We usually do lots of lights and candles indoors, a tree and the cards. Outside was plain white lights and stars strung across the front of the house and not blinking.
This year we have yet to find a source of Xmas trees as we've only seen them in one place so far but then we haven't been looking. I think it's asking for trouble having a tree and kittens. Bad enough with just Bonzo's waggy tail smashing baubles without having small felines hanging from the branches. If we light the log burner the tree will faint from the heat. Lots to think about.
Whatever, it all comes down on 12th night.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
One of my best memories is of my husband and son hurling themselves across the room to catch the tree - and two kittens - as it fell. They righted It, removed the kittens and replaced the fallen baubles in seconds and without a word.
Unfortunately, OH's reactions are such that I can practically see the thoughts being processed. Current plan is to try a smaller one up on a table in the window of the dining room but then they'll just climb the tablecloth won't they?

They always remind me of emergency service vehicles!! ? Not helped that I spend too much time bathed in flashy blue lights at work. They never feel festive to me.
We put them up after all the birthdays are dealt with (5th) usually a week or two at most before the big day.

Now that's a variation of the song I haven't heard. Like it though
My sons birthday is on the 22 nd so we never used to put the decorations up until then, and the tree the day after his special day.
Now he's an adult we do decorate a bit earlier , usually triggered by Christmas cards accumulating on the bookcase.
Decorations come down on Twelfth Night and not before.

We received our first Christmas card yesterday. This friend has always been the first one but I don't think she's sent them in November before!
I think my tree and decorations will go up sometime in the week before Christmas.

Obelixx. . . . and the chairs and curtains, if need be to get to the tree.
Can you suspend a small tree from the ceiling?
