Back from son's. Was a horrendous drive. Started on country roads through fields and golden forests with dappled sunlight. Arrived at the motorway at Vierzon and the rain tipped down, then the wind started up. It was quite scary around Chateauroux. Didn't stop raining until Limoges.
Log man had been so we stacked a load of logs until it got too dark.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Glad you're home in one piece Busy. It's wild out there and you must be tired from the distance even without the hazards. Must order some wood for here but the one time we lit the wood burner we were almost flattened by the wall of heat and had to retreat.
Chicky I hope you got home safely too and any other travelers and commuters too.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Have you got sandbags, Punkdoc? A place I work which was prone to flooding through the back door, they have had something constructed that a board can be slid in to make a dam, and then sandbag it at the base. They are at the bottom of the hill, so get sudden rushes with downpours that goes under the door instead of into the grate.
Rain seems to have stopped here. Hubby has gone up the M1 to Leeds today, so I am hoping it is clear. No light yet, when the sun comes up, I had better check for damage outside. It got very windy yesterday evening.
Got home eventually, but late for my Garden Club meeting. Never mind, I think they understood. Will be glad to be back to my normal drive to work this morning - no more trains til Thursday.
Gorgeous picture Lesley - love it when the frost picks out the branches of the trees like that
I have been looking at the large Allium light on Sarah Ravens website. It might go nicely with my dandelions. I had lost them in the undergrowth during summer, things like helianthus, aconites and cephalaria were growing taller, but now they have been cut down I can see them again.

Weather getting worse, river in the next door field has flooded, as has our stream. So far no damage to the house.

thinking of everyone affected by the weather. Keep safe and warm and sleep tight all ((hugs))
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
