How sad doc. I watched a MASH reunion show last night and got quite emotional thinking about how nothing changes. Many of the episodes were based on facts provided by doctors and nurses. I don't think anything will ever change - there will always be some bunch of zealots wanting to bomb the c**p out of someone else, and some poor souls doing their bit to help will be in the wrong place. Can't let human decency get in the way of a vile war, can you?
I thought about those young army lads I met on the hill yesterday - some of them looked like they should still be in school and were struggling to get up the steep bits. Gets things totally in perspective.
Hpe oblelixx gets her stove working soon....
Work beckons here too chicky. It's a bit chilly out there but dry for now although the ground's very damp. Had an early night last night - must have needed it as I slept well.
I'll catch up with you all later. Have a good day.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
P'doc - such sad news for all concerned. It is wicked to fill people with the hate needed to commit atrocities and so stupid to think terrorism and war-mongering solve anything.
The oven started working again once it had cooled down. Madness! How's anyone supposed to cook their dinner or bake a cake if the gas runs out in the middle and won't re-light?
Cool, grey and slightly damp here this morning. Errands sort of day. OH has to go to Namur tomorrow for a week to sort out paperwork for Possum. She has Belgian nationality but they're saying she can't register to live in Namur without proof of income and parents and they need a body. Bureaucracy!
I get to stay with the dogs and some painting to hide the last shadows of those stripes so I can set up my sewing space and I need a new tap in the bathroom.
Have fun, whatever you're doing.

Raining. Heating oil coming this morning, hopefully. Last week he never arrived because he couldn't find the house. Secretary said she'd given him detailed instructions.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
at times like this it's hard to remember that there is more good in the world than bad and more love than hate and it's so important that we keep showing love and kindness and giving it air and sunshine so that it grows - A generation that grows up without it will never understand the beauty of peace and love.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Obxx I love quinces. They keep well and just one will perfume a room. one of my favourite recipes is to use it in a pot roasted pheasant or guinea fowl. If you're interested I'll find the recipe when we get home tonight.

That sounds good Busy. I was a bit worried about the rose water in my recipe. Can be too flowery.
Yes please Dove. I love guinea fowl.
Still grey here but no proper rain. Just enough to dampen the road surface but not the soil. We've been out to buy a new tap for the bathroom basin and a clothes airer since we can't put the washing outside.
Might need a little zizz before dog walking. Feeling weary.

Had a lovely day yesterday (27 - again!!) even if we were busy moving things around for the landscapers. Just as well we did. Between 8am and 10am today we had 2 loads of pea shingle, 1 load of hoggin and 3 loads of topsoil delivered. No room on driveway anymore so I took the car and went out....
Obelixx - we have a quince tree. I make a lot of quince jelly because it goes so well with pork, chicken and cheese and I often stir it into stews if I want a little hit of sweetness. Also makes a nice alternative to jam on toast. I never bother with peeling and coring the quinces when making jelly (they're very hard and quite tricksy). I just chop them up (about into eighths) and boil everything up - skin, pips and all - and then strain the pulp through a jelly bag to get the juice.
I keep back a few fruit which I peel, core and slice fairly thinly before freezing. A couple of slices in an apple crumble or pie or apple sauce gives a real perfumed lift.
Doc - Sorry to hear the news about your colleagues. The world can be a very sad, bad place at times. I still believe the goodness and kindness outweighs the evil though.
Clari - we have been at the stage you are at with the house but we only did one or two rooms at a time. You seem to have been camping in your house forever. Hope you can get heating and lighting sorted before winter really starts to bite
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Thanks for the tip Pat. I have over 3 kilos of big fat quinces so I'm going to use 2 to make jelly and membrillo paste with the pulp http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2667653/quince-and-rosewater-jelly-and-quince-paste and save some for a tart and a bit more for a veggie dinner tonight - http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/roast-parsnip-quince-caramelised-onion-salad-preserved-lemon

More hugs for Punkdoc.
Vile this morning. Rain all night and strong winds.
I like quince jam with cinnamon in it.
