Back from the farm shop - I have a nice cock pheasant and some smoked streaky bacon for Sunday and a couple of slices of black pudding which I'll add to the pickings off the carcass to make a filling for pasties on Monday.
I also bought some venison (I'll probably make a pie with that tomorrow) and some frozen fish pie mix (that's gone into the freezer some some future meal).
I bought a lovely big cauli - we'll have cauliflower cheese and jacket potatoes for supper tonight, a Crown Prince squash to store in the garage for the winter (I've already got one in there) and a kabocha squash to have with the venison and pheasant this weekend, a Savoy cabbage, some curly kale, four leeks, a kilo of onions and a big bag of local Cox and russet apples. Along with some local cheese, free range eggs and a Cromer crab, that lot should keep us fed this week.
Everything sourced from Norfolk and Suffolk, most from within a few miles from here.

Dove, your menu for the week sounds amazing. I wish I still ate meat - pheasant and streaky bacon mmm! I miss fish pie, too. I have found all sorts of ways to substitute for meat in things but you just can't imitate a nice mix of whiting, smoked haddock and prawns.
Clari - if you start now you'll get here in plenty of time - it's downhill all the way from you
Thankthecat as a member of a farming family and a former smallholder who raised my own meat animals (and made goat cheese etc) I'm a confirmed omnivore - but I do try very hard indeed to ensure that the meat I eat comes from well managed farms where the animals have a good quality of life, and meet their end in a calm and unstressed way. I abhore factory farming, the misuse of antibiotics etc etc

Nice one Dove! It's great to support small holders. I have no problem with anyone else eating meat, it's just not for me, but I do get upset at all the cheap stuff in supermarkets - you just know they've had a miserable life. Mind you, if you saw the state of my veg patch right now you might be tempted to start a campaign against vegetable abuse, lol!
That's the cauliflower cheese made and two big Estima spuds washed and rubbed with oil, all ready to go in the oven later.
I've done a bit of work in the studio but my arm/shoulder began to ache so I've left it for a while - it's so much better than it was - I don't want to aggravate it.

Pdoc I can just see you in your purple dressing gown and matching smoking cap (according to Bargain Hunt or similar - they can be referred to as thinking caps. Go for it!
Dove your menu is mouthwatering but there are four of us. Don't imagine there's any more room. Never mind - egg and chips on the menu tonight.
How did you guess Lesley? At the moment here we've got chocolate cake, carrot cake and pineapple upside down cake. As we're running a bit short I shall be making some lemon squares later this afternoon
Back from Norwich, wish I'd seen Dove's post about the farm shop, but I think we'll go next week after we return from Yorkshire, visiting uncle. I love Cromer crab as well as pheasant. Thank you for the link Dove, looks great and there is a GC next door so that will make a nice outing. Maybe see you there? Or maybe not, as you have just been. If there's a café we could meet there if you want to.
Went to M&S. Bought jeans, underwear and a jumper. Their clothes fit so much better than French ones and the prices are reasonable. Also bought really comfy shoes in Hotter. The French have slimmer feet than me.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I wonder if I buy a purple dressing gown Dove will mistake me as her daughter and thus feed me til I pop like the cuckoo chick I am.

Right all inspired by these feasts I've pulled some duck breast from the freezer. Now to dust off the receipe books!
Oh... and then dust off the kitchen.
Weekend!!
