    Lovely, as usual, Doghouse.

Did loads of little jobs today - tying in, pulling up weeds, rescuing a ravaged Astrantia and Gaura (potted up and admitted to the intensive care bench) and general fiddling. I did purchase a Foxglove for the fern border as the few I have won't flower this year, as from last year's seed. Two Sunflowers have snapped already (could be the high winds or could be fauna?) but luckily I have some 'reserve' ones for such accidents. I always do three pots with Sunflowers in, one for each neiece, so there would be tears if the Sunflowers 'broke' (my tears!)

Got out and did some deadheading and watering this morning.

Garden has completely got away from me in the last couple of weeks, long grass in the borders, things completely smashed up from weather or pigeons, bindweed holding things up that would probably otherwise have broke...image Things completely overwhelmed by other plants...large bare gaps☹️ Tried to train two clems to grow in the opposite direction to normal and they've ended up in a big tangle on top of the fence?

Haven't really got the time to fix it either, will try and do a little bit each day while I'm on mid-shiftimageimage

  • It's that time of year when the garden grows at an alarming rate - so little and often is the best way to keep on top of it.  Watering your pots and delicate plants is what I would rate as the most important jobs - the other jobs get done as you say Victoria Sponge as and when you can.

I dug out a few errant blue bells, but then wondered if I have dug out nerine lilies by mistake oooops!

Still tweaking the pond and surrounds and cleared and repotted some plants in the greenhouse. Lovely sunny day here, so easy just to sit and watch and do exactly NOTHING!

Dunno Guernsey the nerines are usually huge bulbs.  I sowed 3 different types of lettuce, just small row, Hubby doesnt like salad!  Wished now I had put the kale there, because last year I had to net it because of the cabbage whites, have sowed a few kale seeds, watered my wildflower seeds, did a bit of dead heading.

The wind has really battered my garden. My roses were in flower but most are now petals on the lawn.  I really need to spend a day having a good old fettle to tidy it all up.

Its 'black over at Bills mothers' as we say here so likely another downpour shortly.

Hope you had a good hols GWRSimage

I like your idea of prioritising the pots GD, but I've only planted up a few so far, rest still full of winter bulbsimage

Today did some bindweeding, normally quite fun ripping it out the hedges but I notice I have quite a few sloes (which I need for somethingimage) so snipped the worse bits only and left a bit holding my thalictrum to a hawthorn, hopefully it'll offer a bit of support... Did some anti willowherbing and more deadheading. Mowed the lawn grass, trying to recapture the edges now the bulb carnival is over, it's getting thereimage

  • Working on the pond this morning and also planting out some aquilegias - a bit late for this year but perhaps they will flower next year. Put the last of the slow worm covers down - fingers crossed that we are able to attract some into our garden.
