A whole day in the garden today It's been such a long time since I could do anything, I'd actually forgotten how much I love being out there just pootling about, tidying, hoeing, sowing a few seeds. It's been cool and overcast, drizzling this morning, but - heavens be praised - NOT WINDY. The sun's come out now I've come in for my dinner. I'm not complaining though - aching back, muddy knees and very happy
Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
LP - maybe I need to do a progress report to keep me focused. Far too many other distractions in addition to odd weather this year. More weeds than anything else in the potager at the mo - 25m x 29m and still dithering about the future fruit cage.
Only 3 red cornus here and still in pots. I hope to take cuttings when I plant them out and grow babies.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Been outside dividing two big clumps of francoa, got 8 good size plants to share and 2 bigger plants put back. Chopped my astrantia Roma into 3, I'm keeping those so they've gone back in. Tackled a big clump of hemerocallus into 5 plants and potted up. Come inside now because I'm chilled to the bone. I don't remember a Easter holiday as cold and damp and dreary as this. Need more compost now, cheaper stuff for the plants l share and JI no3 for potting on my large jasmine and Choysia White Dazzler. That means a drive out to my favourite GC, l love a good mooch, l wonder what will tempt me today.
Mulched some more roses, got to empty the compost bin so I can finish doing the roses. Put all the pot marigolds into the greenhouse so i can harden them off.
Seeds sown and in heated windowsill propagator ... tomatoes (Sungold, Marmande and Rosella), Romaneso courgettes, plain leaved parsley and cosmos ... that'll do for starters
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
We sowed our first batch of seeds straight into the outside soil - wild flower seeds - hoping that they will take rather than rot off in this dreary, sunless damp weather. Are we expecting too much? This is how they looked last year.
I've finished weeding and digging the bit behind the GH. Found bindweed roots Have planted 3 sorts of onion sets, including red ones. Planted out the Sweet Peas and sown some more in situ. Sown some hardy annuals in cutting bed, Calendula, Clarkia, Ammi Visnaga and Majus, cornflowers.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Dug my first border. A bit rough around the edges as I don’t have a flat spade.
I'm locking this thread now, as it's now well over 2k posts
