Having seen all the horrid things in the news recently that the RNLI are rushing off to I decided to do what I could to help them raise funds. Unfortunately running a marathon will result in a £4,000 bill from the air ambulance (that's what it costs every time it takes off) and I'm too delicate to jump out of a plane so I'm doing a H20nly challenge. That's 10 days of only drinking Yorkshires finest tap water (don't worry: they do allow you to eat).
Now its neither heroic nor terribly embarrassing so I don't expect to raise much but I've decided it would be fun to try and raise enough money to clothe one RNLI crew person (£968.00)
My friends have jumped at the challenge and in only a few hours we had the £42.00 required to purchase some sea boots. Not much to cover his or her dignity but still at least their feet wont get wet!
Very successful day here: seeds ordered, winter sun booked [ going back to Grenada in the Caribbean ], so a nice surprise for OH, when she gets back from work.
Seeing as it is now meterological Autumn, am going to take note book outside, and do some serious planning for the changes to be made in the garden, for next year.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Back from Ireland, washing done, plums and runner beans picked, house tidied (cat's been filling it with spare fur in our absence) and post dealt with. Finally caught up with this thread! Reading back takes some time...
Greetings, Raisingirl! Nice to see you on this thread.
Bushman, sorry things are tough. Hugs to you...
Clari, well done on your H2Only challenge! What a good idea.
DD, learning to relax may take time. You've been frantically busy for so long that it's going to be hard to switch off... glad you had some mates to share this morning with, and that Charlie is coping well with the change in circumstances.
Wonky, hope the gardening job is just what the doctor ordered!
Hope those not at work today are enjoying some proper late summer weather.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Take a breath now Liri. It must have been lovely to see the grandchildren again. Hope the crossing was better coming back this way.
Clari, brilliant idea. Who wants to run a marathon when it's such an effort to drink water for a month. Couldn't do it 'cos I think I'm addicted to coffee and cola. Keeps me awake half the day anyway
Hello raisingirl. Good to 'see' you and my coffee is black with one sweetener (any time of day is fine by me)
Bushman ((hugs)). A very difficult time at the moment but hang on in there and you'll come out the other side smiling.
Dove reminded me I had to pop into the village earlier to get some ox heart for the dogs' tea, so I nipped into the bakery while I was there and got a few cakes - there's a lemon and almond slice, some cherry bakewells, a couple of chocolate shortbread and I got one piece of their bread pudding but I'll cut that in 3 because it rather weighs you down . I'll leave them all here on the side - just help yourselves. Trying to ingratiate myself as the new girl and all
I've been cleaning. Boo. Hate housework but we have rellies coming at the weekend and whilst OH and I are happy enough in our own muck, it seems a bit too much to expect someone else to put up with it. Time for a cuppa now though so the kettle's on. How've you all got on today?

Ooh, cherry bakewell for me please, Raisingirl, if there's any left... my cup of tea is a bit wet without added cake.
Lesley, yes thanks - we had a lovely time with the little girls. They are a delight at that age, though quite exhausting! The older poppet started school today for the first time, and it seems to have gone down well; she told her Mum she wants to go back tomorrow. And the return ferry journey was pretty calm, thanks.

Filthily. Dust and sneezing fits as I go through old folders of documents to keep or chuck, old dress patterns, old embroidery kits, books on stenciling and furniture painting, boxes of old copper pans, brass bits, crockery that hasn't seen the light of day in 20 years including some very fetching late 60s/early 70s brown and orange stuff OH had in his first flat............ Finally says it can go.
Now I'm on to packing up fabrics and have found the stash Possum and I bought to make her modern, fitted, belly dance costumes except that she's given that up now. Oh well, dance frocks for me then. Have to wait for the big packing boxes to be delivered before I tackle the serious pile of my fabrics and need to buy some proper containers for all my reels of thread.
OH has done several dump runs with old crocks, old stereos and wood and curtain rail offcuts. It's amazing what accumulates when you work full time and can't get to the dump cos you play golf on Saturdays!
Very thoughtful of you to buy some cakes but none for me thanks. Need to clear a space in teh kitchen so I can get dinner on and then have a shower.

Excellent idea, Clari.
RNLI is a worthy cause.

Ten litres of soup made and another five in the pot.
Neighbour brought round a very large bag of apples from her tree but I can't face any more peeling today
It's starting to drizzle now but I'll soon be settling down to watch some tennis from the U.S. Open
Almond slice for me please, raisingirl
