I think today is the coldest day we've had where I an in the East Midlands! Yesterday was the coldest so far and today was supposed to be better - we'll see. Next week is sup posed to warm up a bit so I plan on getting a lot of work done it there then!

Stockton on Tees, very cold, Jack Frost has his icy fingers gripping the area, white rooves white grass, in fact white everything. "Oh well" nearly out of January two months to Spring in our N E corner of this Blessed Isle we hope, we have had snow before up to April.

A bit sad read in the local hatched matched dispatched one of my first girl friends had passed on, all of twelve, she was thirteen I got dragged into the bomb damaged old mill at the end of the lane and kissed, well and truly, she told me she loved me. I was in total panic because the behind the bikeshed lore said kissing a girl meant she would have a baby, yikes I ran all the way home and hid for a week. If she had a baby it should be over by then, how innocent we were. She told my wife more than once she kissed me first, women?

Frank, your memories are lovely and made me smile. I fear that young people today are not so innocent but perhaps that is just as well!  I have lost several of my childhood friends and it is very sad but I suppose that is life. image

  • No sun here - the good weather pattern has well and truly broken. Rain from mid morning, very gloomy and feels cold with that wind blowing too, but not freezing.

Daydaisy. it is best to think of the good times and fun we had together with those friends now gone, Elsie was a dance partner among many. Few boys of my age learned to dance and as I also boxed any comments were made well out of hearing distance. Taking flowers for my late wife passing plots of girls I knew thinking of the fun we had has me smiling lifts the spirit. Innocence was because we knew most dads in our village owned 12 bore shotguns, we would walk back from the dance halls as a crowd, grab a quick kiss before reaching the green where the dads would be waiting, no hanky panky not that we knew what it meant. Did we have the best of it? Knowing the pressures on my Grandchildren I think it was some thing we did not have to worry about, the consequences were too horrific. Those good old days had something going for them it seems, " err" apart from the old tin bath on the back yard wall, fifth in after parents sister the dog and cat was a let down to the ego.

Much warmer now than it was this morning. I suppose colder weather would have improved my bird count as tomorrow I am doing the bird watch thing. Cleaned out the feeders to refill. What a job! Why can't someone invent an easy to wash bird feeder? I made some lovely bird cake with raisins, cheese and lard, mostly ignored so far. image
