Verdon yes I do like purple dark leaved plants I have taken a look at the astilbe and it's on my list , after reading some of your previous posts this is the first year I have planted grasses and I adore them every day they look different and now wouldn't be without what I've missed all these years.wakeshine it is Catananche Caerulea a perennial which I have grown from seed flowers the first year.
Wow Aym look at all the lovely flowers you've raised from seeds. Amazing. Well as for the dahliettas or collarettes or whatever they're called - it was a mixed bag of tubers from Morissons and this was the cover:
...yet none of them look like any of these - most were double coloured collarettes except for one which was plain yellow, or double coloured single petals. I tried to work out the varieties and think I have Pooh, La Gioconda and Mary Evelyn or Night Butterfly. Hope this helps :-)
Aym what happened to your dahlias?! Did they not grow? I am sure they are lovely! I wouldn't call myself organised by any stretch, I just saw the bag, liked the colours, didn't even know anything about gardening at that point and didn't know you can grow dahlias from seed! If you ask me that takes more organisation - well done for this feat! I have to say growing dahlias has been a lot of hard work! They'll probably sell them again in Feb? I think that's around when I got them...
Still waiting for my rudbeckia to open...yours is very lovely.
Yes Aym I've had to use about one strong stake ( have used Bamboo sticks) on the bigger plants. Basic dahlias are nice too! Single and anemone types are so nice. I don't really like the cactus dahlias as much as pom pom or water lily types, not sure I'll grow them again.
