Just heard an interview with Alistair Brownlee, asking about how he celebrated winning.

"A burger, a beer, and some cake." [ Alistair ]

    " Some cocktails later" [ interviewer ]

" No mate, I am from Yorkshire" [ Alistair ]

How can you lie there and think of England

doc - that's terrific! They're doing Yorkshire proud  image

Mind you - what was that interviewer thinking! image

I was awake to see Jade Jones and Usain Bolt winning. Felt so sorry for Gemili - 3 thousandths of a second outside a medal... image

They've just played that Brownlee brothers interview on TV while I was typing - hilarious!  image

As Iwan Thomas, 400 metre runner, said - it depends whether you live up north or down south, he lives in Southampton.

I felt sorry for Gemili too, so close, I wish they'd announced a tie  for bronze.

Alistair Brownlee is so mean.  He could let his little brother win once in a while. image

KT53 It is in the blood I never let my sibling win at anything, swimming cycling running or even ludo, saying that she was my Sister and nearly two years younger. I gave it a bit of a rest after the Brownley's won their event, ping pong and feather swatting are not my thing, the hockey a bit dull to us Northerners, we never had the Jolly Hockey games at school, football cricket rugby boxing fencing and wrestling more our way of killing each other. On the other hand Jade Jones did well, kicking your opponent to death would go down well up here.

So what more surprises await us from our wonderful athletes, lived through many Olympic Games over the years many exciting and memories that live on, Mary Peters among them. London was glorious although these games after all the false starts and claims it would not go ahead has turned out wonderful too well done Brazil.

Frank/Dad - Mary Peters was terrific wasn't she? Lovely person. The Brits are well on course to get very near, or even pass, their London tally which would be fantastic  image

I think KT53 was having a little joke about Alistair Brownlee...image

KT - Johnny could have tripped him up when he had a chance - when no one was looking   image

Hope the hockey girls win tonight. That would be a lovely victory.

BL - when you consider that the posted times (200metres race) are identical, even if there's a miniscule difference in their 'actual' times, it would only be fair if they'd both got a bronze. Let's start a petition!  image

Both Brits through to the showjumping final. Not sure if they have a real chance but it would be lovely if they could get something. Think it's a very long time since we got an individual medal. Seventies I reckon?  Coursebuilder needs to come up with something good too - not enough technicality in the first round. Agree with you about the French rider. Bit too much like Geoff Billington's 'style' which I always loathed.  Strange when you think how stylish the French riders are generally. Germans will be very hard to beat though.

You just beat me to it, Joyce! Hurray for Nick Skelton, brilliant round in the jump off, no one could catch him!

I've made the mistake of looking in here while watching on catch up after pausing to make dinner....

But I don't mind at all!  How utterly fantastic!  imageimageimage

So pleased for him!  Such a fine horseman!   I've been a fan of his since he was a lad working in Harvey Smith's stable -  watched him win the Puissance when he was n'owt but a lad.  Drinking his health here in Norfolk.
