    So sad for him. He is such a nice guy and he must be feeling bad. He hasn't let anyone down - these things 'happen'.

    It certainly is a shame for him.  As he said in his interview after the event.  An Olympic record in qualy.  Pity they don't carry the scores forward.  Positive is that he's already talking about the next Olympics.

    watching the amateurs here it is clear to me many in fhe professional ranks would struggle to win Olympic medals.

    The ban on professionals competing in the Olympics was dropped some time back in the 1980s. 

    Added: just checked - it was 1986
