I think there have been lots of valid comments about empty seats in many of the venues, but when you see competitors waiting until near midnight for their heats it's hardly surprising. Why are they being scheduled for such inappropriate times? To fit the US television schedules!! How about putting the competitors first??
Coaches, of course, are paid to be critics. They'd be no good at their job otherwise
KJT does struggle with the big occasion - that's well documented. However, praise where it's due. She certainly rose to the occasion last night.
Of course we can criticise people we like and admire DHR. However, the criticism should always be tempered with a little bit of admiration, unless you have personal experience of the event or sport in question and have competed at a similar level.
I think we can be rightly proud of all our sportsmen and women just now. No one goes to an Olympic games hopping they'll 'only' get a bronze. They're aiming for gold every time. Everyone at the highest level in their sport is capable of beating the very best if they aren't at their absolute peak, and that's what usually drives them and keeps them motivated.

DHR I think the problem is that you quoted Steve Backley's expert view as if it was your own opinion.
All comments/criticism needs putting in context ... now you've done that we understand that what you said wasn't your own opinion but a paraphrase of SB's comments carrying the weight of his vast experience. Not merely the view of an 'armchair expert'.

Just loving this Olympics .... the trampolining silver medal last night was fab.
But for me the biggest stars are the 2 synchronised crocodiles and the high-jumping fox .... don't you just love 'em!
