    Morning everyone image

Been away for the weekend - came back & had a quick look at the last of the July thread - all I can say is you've all been chattier and cheekier in equal measure - keep up the good work image

Sorry to hear your news Dew-Drops - hope today brings some positive information.

Sorry also to hear about BL's poorly dog. Breaks my heart when pets get old and start to break down. Sad that he was traumatised by fireworks - not a fan of them myself simply because of the distress they cause to animals. I worry like crazy about the poor animals in Battersea Dogs' Home on New Year's Eve & other major events in London when they have fireworks - as if they hadn't been through enough already ...

We went down to Dorset for the weekend. Decided to relive my childhood and travel the route my dad used to take before the days of motorways and bypasses. Went through some nice towns and villages and took our time - took about 6 hours to get to our destination with plenty of stops. Realised when we got there that all the major roads (A14, M11, M25, M3, A303 etc etc) had been in virtual gridlock for most of the day and most people had endured horrendous journeys.

We probably got there much sooner and had a much nicer time going the 'old way'image

Traffic was pretty bad coming back yesterday afternoon as well (think everybody was out 'doing' their hobby - cycling, caravanning, music festivals, gliding, vintage cars, horsey stuff etc etc). M3 at a standstill, so we came across country again - much better - again image

First Canna has just started flowering.

How can you lie there and think of England

Congrats on the canna Pdoc - Hosta gave me one he'd grown from seed - his are in flower in his polytunnel - mine is growing but showing no signs of flowering in my sunniest spot in Norfolk image

But on a sunnier note ... I'm having a lovely morning out in the garden painting the garden furniture, accompanied by croaking frogs image

You lucky thing Dove! My boss has just announced that I am to find 60 students and 30 old persons for an opening event in the museum.... taking place less than 13 days after school restarts.

    He does make me laugh.

    Happy August everyone!

Glad he makes you laugh, Clari - I think he might make me react somewhat differently  image

My "Yorks & Lancs" rose (Rosa mundi) has one flower remaining this morning.  Just hanging on for Yorkshire day...  we live more or less on the border, actually in Yorks but postal address Lancs.  OH born in Bradford though, so I know which side my bread is buttered, so to speak  image

Enjoyed "The Imitation Game" last night.  I'd agree, the acting was superb and it was quite gripping (so I didn't get to sleep until 1.30 cos I kept thinking about it!).  Just spoiled slightly because I'd read the true story quite recently, and this obviously changes it somewhat for dramatic effect.

Must get lunch.  Visit to B&Q this morning lasted longer than anticipated... I love wandering round looking at potentially useful bits & pieces...  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Faffy sort of morning.  Went to Namur to complete the formalities for Possum's apartment and get the keys so we could start hanging curtains and depositing kitchen stuff.   Need to shorten two very heavy and long and wide old rose velvet curtains to fit a 4m wide window which is a pain but better than buying new at this stage in her life so that's me tied to the sewing machine this pm after another coat of paint on those chairs.......

Busy - lot of funerals lately!   Hope you're OK.

Topbird - sounds like a good weekend.   Motorways are dreadful when they become a car park.  Som eyears ago we went to Haute Provence for a riding holiday for Possum - organised by our neighbours at the riding school over the way.  Got there hours ahead of others who left earlier and followed their satnav down the Autoroute du Soleil.   I used a map and we took the scenic route.  Much less stressy and a good lunch too.

PDoc - well done on the canna.  I gave up growing them here.   They'd take so long to get going that by the time they did produce a flower it was time for the first frosts.

Have fun with the painting Dove.    Have a good day all.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

    Dove, a word of warning.

I fear some, not all, of my cannas have come down with the dreaded Canna virus which is pretty much endemic now.

My understanding is that it is spread by aphids and there's no cure.

Good news is that it doesn't spread to anything else, just cannas.

Rain has had us both in the tunnels this morning catching up on stuff. Had our neighbour over to give him the run down on watering whilst we're away in Amsterdam.

    Devon.

    See original post

Oh that would be hilarious! My all dressed up in my smartest talking all posh like to the proper high ranking officers that will be gracing the day and you lot pulling up in your torn jeans and muddy shoes sneaking sandwiches off the buffet and drinking pop in the exhibits.

Actually that sounds just what I need! image

Currently emailing every head teacher in South Yorkshire. Individually. With personalised I'm so sorry to be disturbing your holidays.

Someone needs to send a letter round: people are having too many babies! The amount of primary schools around here is ridiculous.
