You're right GWRS - we don't have tornadoes, monsoons and earthquakes - just a bit of bad weather! image

Plenty of cake left Joyce - perhaps not by this time tomorrow night...image

I have 9 grandchildren, living in France, and OH has two in England, aged from 1 to 10. Summer holidays means I get to see more of them.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Good evening all, probably good morning for most by the time you read back. I am alive & well, but exhausted, just finished work. image

I am now fully installed in my new house though, hurrah, and Charlie loves it too. image

Have been working hours I didn't know existed and still managing ( and doing all the work at b&b). So, apologies for not checking in with you all, I think I did 6 trips from old house to new one yesterday, brought over all my books, spare washing machine & bed settee and my desk and rather embarrassing hoard of stationary, I do love it. image

My new house is on a little village green sort of thing and all the neighbours have been watching my efforts with a mixture of amusement and concern. I got stuck in my hedge last week with a fridge/freezer on the pallet truck, couldn't go forward, couldn't go back, it's on a slight incline and I'd managed (embarrassingly) to roll in to the bush. The neighbours, thankfully, managed to rescue me and a 70 year old and a nearly 80 year old were kind enough to oiyk me out of the bush and get my rather large fridge freezer into the kitchen, one way to get acquainted with the neighbours. image

Anyway,  I'm in, and have registered with electric, water and telephone companies, internet on by 3rd of September and trying to fathom out how to get the BBC on the TV. image

This morning Charlie got up and dressed before 7am and went to the boulangerie by himself to buy fresh bread for our breakfast and also made us (lumpy I must admit) crêpes. He is such a star. image I nearly followed him to boulangerie, bit scary to see him go off on his own, even if it is only 5 minutes away, but I resisted and he was so proud of his achievement. image

So, a lovely start to the day, even if it was followed by making 6 beds and then working 10 hours at the chateau. ?

Tomorrow though Charlie and I are having a day off ( and out) and are going on a trip to a beautiful garden about 2 hours away.

I promise to try and get back to reading and posting regularly, miss you all very badly, hoping life will settle down a bit from now on. Best wishes to all, catch up soon. ???

DD, I hope you are now being paid for all the work at the B &B. You must be exhausted. It is so nice that Charlie is stepping up to be Man Of The House (MOTH). How old is he? My friends boys were so good when she separated from her husband. My sisters boys all went into Grunt mode when they reached puberty. I had an entire conversation with my nephew on the phone, consisting of me asking questions, and him grunting back. I still don't know whether my sister was in or not. We were travelling back from up North and intended dropping in for a coffee. We went to Wetherby services on the A1 instead.image

We had polka raspberries yesterday with our porridge. The second lot. The first didn't get as far as the kitchen.image

There looks to be a good crop on. I put the soaker hose on around them yesterday, they are in the shade of the top oak most of the time. They don't mind the shade, but the oak makes it very dry there.

Regarding moving fridge freezers, when I got divorced and was on my own, the old one I was left with broke, and I struggled getting it out of the back door. It wasn't until I was stuck that I admitted defeat and asked a neighbour for help. I had got so used to doing everything on my own, that asking for help was really difficult, but people really do want to help, you only have to ask.

Now I've got coffee I can compile a list of things to do.

Summer prune apples, there is a huge amount of upright growth on the dwarf apples to come off.

The prunings will need shredding. The shreddings need mixing with grass cuttings to make compost. The lawn needs cutting. The older compost needs turning to make space for new compost. The old compost need some rock dust adding for the worms to mix  it all up while it is maturing for the winter. The rock dust is coming tomorrow on a pallet.

So I really have nothing to do today except sit in the shade, read a book, and give the garden a good looking at.

     Have a good day folks.
