if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly
OH regrets the passing of the quicksand in popular drama ... there was a time when every child was well acquainted with how to rescue someone who was sinking slowly to meet their end ... you needed either a lasso and a willing horse, or a long rope and a small helicopter ... Champion the Wonder Horse anyone ... or were you a Chuck and P T person, flying about in your Whirlybird ?
I regarded Champion the Wonderhorse as an essential part of my education, as I was well prepared should I ever come across someone trapped in The Grimpen Mire whilst I was ponytrekking on Dartmoor
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hi Joyce, I've enjoyed your selection of phrases displaying a rather idiosyncratic use of Ehglish; but, I do admit that I had never before come across the past tense of "dive" as "dove". So, I googled it and guess what? It's, apparently, American! Fun, all the same!
Hi Dove, thank you for the Radio4 link. Fascinating!
Your references to quicksand reminded me of one of my favourite "children's" books: The Eighteenth Emergency, by Betsy Byars. Every now and again I re-read it. I enjoy it thoroughly! But I often find that some of the most enjoyable books were written for children.
Simple mind....
What an amusing collection of English confusions, Joyce!
The Democrats are pushing for Universal HealthCare while thousands of people are marching in the UK because their U system is going broke and not working. Dems want to greatly raise taxes for really bad and non-personal medical care. No thanks!

Dove, thank you for the R4 link. A most interesting programme.

Is anyone else old enough to remember them

But the baddies always sank without trace - but sometimes their black hat was left floating on the surface.
It was soooooooooo helpful when the baddies always wore black hats wasn't it

Apparently, Mrs May has "rebuked" the Donald for his tweet, but her actual words are not known!

Today is 100 years since women won the right to vote. How much do we owe the Suffragettes!
They faced the taunts not only of men but of other women too (Someone said to me once, "a woman's worst enemy is another woman!
)
but they would not give up.
We have come a long way because of them. RESPECT!
But equality is still a long way away and women are still marching.
Many are remembering their courage.

As I had not come across "dove" as a verb, either, I googled it and look what I got!
The ideal Valentine's gift for every Dove!
