This "Special Relationship" - does anyone know how Britain is supposed to benefit from it? I've never heard anyone explain why we need it, or what would happen to us if we, or they, broke it off.
Hi Jo, I think it implies quite a lot of co-operation between the two countries, and is thus, apparently, mutually beneficial. There's some information here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Relationship
Late last night I received a text from my friend, Christina, who's, at the moment, sunning herself on the island of Thassos. She greeted me: "Hi Christina...."
I think she's had too much Greek sun, sea and wine to even remember that she's Christina not I.
Hi Artemis, your friend’s mistake is rather amusing. Heaven knows, I was in need of such a … treat. The daily misery of Brexit and the loud mouths who keep on clanging their cymbals, despite our real problems, are quite depressing me. And Mark Carney’s statement today, added to the unhappiness, though, of course, it was not unexpected.
So, your friend’s mistake was …helpful. Was it Retsina or Ouzo, I wonder! Unless, of course, she actually sent it to the wrong person, rather than addressed you wrongly.
Yesterday, my daughter, two of her children and I visited a small garden centre near where they live, as she wanted to buy some autumn bulbs.
While we were choosing, my 11 year od granddaughter and 9 year old grandson decided to have a look around by themselves. After a short while they returned with a pot of very beautiful French marigolds for me. They were both quite excited about the freebies flourishing next to the marigolds: bitter cress!

Go on, Phaidra, have a giggle!
Thank you, Artemis. The shoes and the stockings are something else!
I felt in need of some happiness, so I followed the advice of the...Science Man:
Here’s what brain research says will make you happy:
Ask “What am I grateful for?” No answers? Doesn’t matter. Just searching helps.
Label those negative emotions. Give it a name and your brain isn’t so bothered by it.
Decide. Go for “good enough” instead of “best decision ever made on Earth.”
Hugs, hugs, hugs. Don’t text — touch.

Hi Phaidra, what an interesting article. Thank you. It didn't make me laugh, just as it was not meant to, but I found it hugely absorbing.
Artemis, I loved the Elizabethan courtier!
Hi Danae, I love the double negation.
Me too!
