I've been enjoying the program in general. However I don't think Charlie is cut out to be the main presenter as she just doesn't have the personality required. She's great as part of a team a la Ground Force but not the lead. Just IMHO of course.

When we plan, plant and re design our own gardens, we know it will take months at least for them to grow and fill out

saw a recording of a prog last night....it was excellent image I will not be criticising this well-intended programme image

Let face it its a garden design program rather than  a gardening program. I switched off and watched Gardeners world as its about growing  plants.

I know I would be no good at garden design and it's the plants I like.  I grow my patio plants in plastic pots as earthenware are too heavy to move easily. I have back  problems and I have had shoulder tendons repaired.  I do what I can, how I can, which is crawling on my hands and knees in the mud rather than back bending.

Yes! I am a plants woman not a garden designer.  I buy a plant I like the look of and then find a place for it.

I'm easy to please, I really like the programme. It doesn't matter that I don't like parts of their designs, it still triggers my own creative thoughts and ideas and I'm just happy to have another gardening programme to watch. Sometimes I've wondered where has the budget bre been spent but then I'm thrifty and like to feel I've got good value for my money. Or some might say I'm just tight, lol. And I love Charlie as the prresenter, a very natural, down to earth lady who has just aged like the rest of us. The lads seem easy going and enthusiastic gardeners too. I hope the programme will be long running anyway and that it will encourage new gardeners with its more realistic budgets.

I agree with karen paul. Charlie is a lovely natural presenter.

Whether I like the designs or not the gardens all look better after the makeover. The owners are happy and it's up to them to keep the gardens looking nice.

    I enjoyed Changing Rooms too.

Top tip DHR. I also have one covered in old carpet for when I need to move things and have no conscripts to hold t'other end eg fence panels! I must look like a right goat but... so? image

It's not covered in carpet "to be fancy" it's for non slip properties! image You don't call me Hyacinth!

That would still mean  bending, or rather kneeling down and moving something much heavier than I need to.

I want to preserve my arm tendons and arthritic thumbs for as long as possible.

  • It is interesting that this has deviated into plant moving techniques, I've looked at the plant wheels as a way of keeping plants lifted slightly to allow drainage but I wondered how well they survive winters and also whether the dog would just be forever knocking things around!
