I love Charlie Dimmock but I don't like the designs so far though. Those tree ferns weren't put in straight and that would have driven me nuts forever.
Hated the grass hurdle seats all I could think of was how the hell are they going to mow them?
Still it's gardening so I'm watching it.
I expect Charlie is struggling with the menopause, lots of people put on a few pounds then. I wouldn't mention it or you will get a poke in the eye, I think she still looks lovely.
I've watched a couple and liked them well enough...just another makeover show though.
I like them for ideas more than anything, but I agree with you Lou - that was my first thought about the turf seat too! Maybe they couldn't afford the ends for the seats...
The turf didn't look terribly well laid either...they might be mud seats by next year!
The problem is that designers are often creating an 'effect', and the practicalities of future maintenance don't always figure too highly..
I liked that particular garden though. I'm not sure there's less maintenance for the owners though. They wanted less grass, and they now have a wildflower meadow which seems like a lovely idea, but it could look a real mess in that spot if not looked after correctly. Bit too prominent a location when seen from the house in winter..
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
'Has anyone noticed the big difference in the drawn designs? The Rich brothers drawings are quite dark whereas Charlie uses a lot of bright green and light brown. Do you think that makes a difference to their 'saleability'??

'Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement' - Helen Keller
I have to say I noticed Charlie was very "down to earth" grumpy and we'll... scruffy. But if she were all tarted up it would hardly be practical. No one scrubs up that well in a muddy the shirt. As for weight; she'll not be the only one amongst us!
To the programme though; it doesn't suit my style I'm afraid. Quick fix and instant benefits rather than a long term project but who would watch a programme that took six months before you saw the glam result (seriously: who? get them over here I need their TV budget to get my garden done!)

Yeah! Like he'd part with a donut...
Good to "see" you Verdun.
I've only seen one so far, some others are recorded. Enjoyed it. Hard to believe Charlie is 50 already! I always liked her, agree with Verdun.

Actually, I've always liked Diarmuid. He did what all designers of any kind do - pushed boundaries.
Otherwise, none of us would ever do anything different, and gardens would become sterile, boring and identical.
All Scottish gardens, for example, would still be conifer laden, heather clad, rhododendron filled plots.
Creativity is a wonderful thing

It's still a good time....

He won the Blue circle "Silver Gilt" this year didn't he? Can't be that bad.
Thankfully we're all different.
Very thankfully!
