I'm sure you're right Dove - it's another element the client's are not paying for.

It's a bit like some of these house renovation projects when they talk about a kitchen costing £3000. That might be the cost of some budget carcasses and doors - but it doesn't include rewiring / plumbing / plastering / decorating / white goods etc etc etc

I know about that one too image

Pretty sure the prices stated for the gardens will only be for the materials and the plants, not any labour content.

Labour's one of the biggest costs involved in construction - of almost any kind.

I hate to think how much my fence and all the raised beds would have cost if I'd not done it myself. The materials alone ( timber, screws etc) were over £1,000, and that doesn't include gravel for paths or soil to fill the beds. Or the five saws I've gone through...

The planting is probably the cheapest bit of my garden! image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

  • The only reason I watch this show is for the Rich brothers, yum yum! The show itself is a bit poor, I think it'd be great if they were able to visit the gardens again in a year to see them matured a little. But as it is they just look a bit bare and sometimes the Rich brothers designs are so impractical (the one where they put soil against the fence to make those hideous lawn seats).

Much prefer Alan Titchmarsh's show, though it could do without all the sob stories (even if they have made me shed a tear or two on occasion). I love the 2 young girls on it too, I think Francis is a similar age to me :)

    Or even "our" garden.

Try looking at the BBC website for the "be on a show" section.

Watched yestedays programme but to be perfectly honest if I paid £6000 for an Italian themed garden and the finished project looked like that then I would be looking for some sort of refund. The planting seemed rushed and the soil for the box plants and olive trees looked as if they had not added any sort of compost or soil conditione. Ok, the natural stone walls were well built but the steel water tank did not fit in to the design imo.The gritted area would have looked better with a quality paved area. The conifers needed reducing in height to allow some light to the lawn area and the lawn it self looked very poor and should have been replaced particularly around the box and olive tree boarder planting

    Apart from that ?

I was not impressed by that last garden with the supposed Mediterannean style.

Despite all the planting, the surroundings hedges growing  ivy etc  it still looked very obviously looked like a very British landscape.

I agree with greenfingerssteve  that the existing trees just did not work with the new planting.

  • Luv the programme with Charlie and the Rich brothers, but PLEASE, please, Charlie, tie that hair back. It's very annoying watching u having to swish it back every few minutes. ?
