These are two freestanding sunflowers too - must be 8-9ft...never thought the little fellow would get up there but he/she's used some props we put up...quite an acrobat. This was him/her on their way down!
Great to watch squirrels in action Wakeshine but they are the bane of my life. . . digging holes in the grass to bury nuts, scraping compost out of pots to do the same, eating flower buds etc
Aym. With woodland at the back of the house it's chestnuts, acorns and beech mast. In the spring, if the squirrels haven't retrieved them, you are left to pull up all the seedlings. There are always some you miss and a year later you are trying to remove them when they're growing through a shrub.
Dragonflies are very special creatures - they are pre-historic, have an amazing life-cycle and are quite beautiful. I hope she has enjoyed my pond and laid lots of eggs - feel lucky to have seen her today.
Lovely pictures AuntyRach, beautiful markings. I am hoping we will get many more of these creatures once our pond is functioning. We did get a small damsel fly in our sun lounge yesterday, tiny compared with this dragonfly.

I heard this little visitor before I saw it on my window sill today...
There is such an intricate pattern on the wings.
