Just joined, what a great thread! I'm a newbie gardener and just had my garden landscaped into a wildlife garden with a pond. I'm getting so much joy from watching the antics of the birds in my feeder, and at the arrival of a long-tailed wood mouse (field mouse) who's set up home in the hedge under the feeders and skitters out, bold as brass, during the day to feed.

I was late starting to feed my birds this year. They have voracious appetites now and are loving the berry flavoured suet pellets I buy for them. My local GC sells a range of loose bird food so you can make up your own blend. I have bought a fat ball container with a cage to stop the jays from ripping them apart and taking lumps away to their caches which is working very well. I am lucky as I have a wide range of birds coming into my garden. The robins have begun their annual fights along the top of the banks surrounding my garden, obviously bird boundaries.
Even though it has been down to freezing temps here, our hedgehog is still coming for food. The camera caught it from 6.40pm till 5.55am last night. Never known one to be so active at this time if year.

We don't usually get badgers coming through at this time of the year either but caught one on the trail-cam last night. Fox came again too and took the suet ball I'd left on the lawn.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
