They were just swooping around @purplerallim, and I didn't realise at the time that it was a juvenile. He/she was just amenable. There was a pair, who were clearly the parents, nearby as well. I had no chance of catching them! I saw them again on the way back down from the hill - the same little area. Just delightful, and I was simply in the right place at the right time on the way up. It was only the adults I saw the second time We actually have them over on the Pentland Hills too - which are on the east side of the country, but I've never seen them there.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I'm very aware of that @purplerallim. Within a couple of hours' drive, I can be in all sorts of wonderful landscape. Those merlins were in Glen Lyon, a beautiful place, full of red squirrels and beautiful views I'm missing my hills terribly, but that's how it is. They will still be there when we're allowed to travel, and the old saying is to ' make sure you are too'

I miss my visits to the coast. The journey I enjoy as much as the destination. Also we go to quite a few agricultural shows in the year, taking us all over the country. I miss watching the livestock being judged. Maybe next year.
Even though I was brought up a townie @Dovefromabove I love livestock, especially the cattle, and the heavy horses. So if hubby looses me its either there or the craft tents ( usually the glass blowing if there is one) this has prompted me to try glass painting during lockdown and these are my first attempts for Halloween 😁

My younger daughter is taller than me, but not the other one. I know my place
6 feet is very tall though. What were you feeding her?
