Had this female Great Crested Newt in the garden over the weekend, a new species for the garden! It seemed to have just come out of hibernation and was very torpid but we moved it to a warm compost heap and it soon perked up and went about it's Newty business. Luv Dave
Lots of wildlife encounters today. A nice lizard at the end of my street, the first cuckoo of the year calling and a blackbird with a white head. So many bees and butterflies around this year too, as well as a lot of other insects which is always good to see. Sadly my nest box camera has been knocked and isn't pointing at the eggs anymore. I don't want to disturb the nest by trying to move it so I'm stuck with that view for the rest of the season now
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I really didn't need help pruning that apple tree!
I was just thinking I hadn't seen any deer in the garden for a while when she re-appeared - ragged, barefoot and pregnant again. Losing her winter coat as she prepares to give birth in a month or so.
I've seen pics and film of assorted deer roaming in Belgian and French towns now there's so little human traffic. One was of a roe deer frolicking in the edge of the surf at Les Sables d'Olonne - normally that beach is full of joggers, dog walkers, swimmers, surfers, strollers and sun bathers depending on the season and time of day.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
