A-Z of common finches in the garden yesterday. Chaffinch, Brambling, Goldfinch, Bullfinch, Greenfinch, Siskin (lots) & at long last a Redpoll :)

Would like to see a Linnet there but we never have so far. A friend of mine once had a Hawfinch in his garden. But of course he doesn't brag about it :#
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

The roe deer turned up last night. It looks like her little excursion last July was successful. She looks to have fatter belly than before. A little family in June maybe?  She stayed for half an hour around our pond.

I'll take bats over cats any day of the week.

    Glad he/she was ok @Skandi.
I forgot I took a pic of the first bee on Sunday. A lovely day, and it was having a grand time weighing down the crocus

A little coal tit was enjoying the pond just a few feet away from me too.
Didn't get a pic on Sunday, but I got one last week. They often like a dip  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Spring must have sprung - I just found an active slowworm. I hadn't seen any sign of them in their favourite composts bins but they are obviously up and about now.

My daughter was busy with the sheep this morning, when she saw the local starlings in a perfect murmuration, 'just like you see on television'. She said they went into a tight ball shape, then fanned out widely across the sky before repeating it, several times. As she was wondering what had prompted it, she spotted the cause - the sparrow hawk! The tactic worked and the starlings escaped without any losses :)
So disappointed, as I was in  the garden too, but not in a place where I would have seen them :(

Last night we picked up on the trailcam, an owl, a bat, a moth, and frogs bobbing up and down (as well as the deer and the foxes and the neighbours cat). This morning we had frogspawn, saw a large yellow butterfly (brimstone?) and a red admiral on the crocuses.  Seems like Spring is here.
