  • Delighted to see a lesser spotted woodpecker at the bird table this morning. The first I have seen for a couple of years. I hope having found something to eat it will revisit. I hear them drumming on the telephone poles, the council have thoughtfully put up new poles this last winter so plenty of places to choose from.

This morning I was putting some meal worms/suet pellets on my bird feeding station. A little Starling landed on the feeder, inches from me. He looked at me (a bit shocked I think) for a few seconds and flew off. By the time I got back to the house he was enjoying his breakfast

Mrs Toad is in the pond and there are lots of strings of spawn. Lovely.

While travelling around this weekend saw boxing Hares, a peacock strutting beside the road (never seen one around here before) , a field full of swans ( biggest group that I have ever seen before, also on our return saw them take flight in a huge V formation) , a small murmuration of starlings , a monkjack deer within feet of us, and (for the third year at the same spot) a barn owl. All this while travelling though Lincolnshire. What a lovely weekend, including a day at the horse racing which was why we were out.😁
  • That sounds wonderful @purplerallim , well spotted and what a delightful mix.  On our walk today I saw a wild rabbit!  We just can't compete with sightings in the English countryside.

We thought we would see rabbits @Guernsey Donkey2 but never a one.
  • A few tears ago I hung a brown teapot up in my quince tree  in the hope that a bird of some kind might fancy it as a des, res" It was the "in" idea at the time, A couple of days ago a blue tit was busy checking it out. It ha only taken 4 years for them to even consider using it, perhaps I should have used a pretty, flowery bone china teapot!

So many butterflies about, but so fast impossible to say which. Ladybirds in the plants and lots of bugs in the soil, the robin was having a field day. 😁
