Two sparrows hit the window the other day and this one needed a bit of time to come around. I think a hawk buzzed the flock around the feeders and two went the wrong way. It's amazing to watch them slowly recover their balance and eventually fly off.
I have an affinity for sparrows - they are such a delight to watch. Flitting around the garden, back and forth, always chirpy!! Glad that yours recovered, @wild edges
Juvenile starlings keep hitting my kitchen window, I can't help but duck when I see one heading for me, idiot 😒. They don't stop after crashing though, keep flying!
I've got some UV reflective stickers on mine @Crazybeelady and that really reduced window strikes. I didn't have any on the window that the sparrows hit though so I really need to get some more
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I have just been entertained by a goldfinch feeding on weed seeds literally just on the other side of my window. It seemed oblivious to me watching it and being so close. Something to be said for weeds
Herman is just wandering around the garden … every so often we find he’s navigated the netting ‘fence’ around the blueberry bushes and is helping himself to OH’s breakfast fruit! He’s quite content to be picked up and handled … he holds and moves his head in an alert way, and walks freely, but his breastbone is sharp and his crop pretty empty … I put seeds and bread out for him yesterday and today but I really don’t want a pet pigeon … his wings seem fine and he can get about a metre up into the blueberries … he just doesn’t want to fly. Our fences are around 7’ so he’s probably trapped in this garden .., I’ve pondered on taking him into the front garden and letting him go there … but a cat would probably get him … I’m not sentimental about woodpigeons… I’m a farmer’s daughter … but that seems a bit unfair … But he’ll probably starve to death in this garden …
