Spotted in the corner of my Mother’s greenhouse earlier today.  I think it’s an elephant hawk moth.

@Dovefromabove @Wilderbeast Most UK suppliers don't deliver to Ireland, understandably, but i was lucky enough to get what i wanted today.  Lots of questions, will post elsewhere.  I'm sorry I didn't go bigger...

Wow, that's some moth!  I found a caterpillar in a pot a few years ago, a beast of a thing.

We have a pair of swans with 6 signets on the river behind the house, they've made me start humming the ugly duckling song 🤣

The elephant hawk moth is a beast in moth or caterpillar stage. They love fuchsia and one year ate a whole bush of flowers and new growth overnight, the Caterpillar were as thick as my finger and yes they do look like they have a trunk.🙂

Just spotted a muntjac in the garden but it legged it before I could get the camera fired up. Unfortunately I'm sure it will be back to munch anything which doesn't move. Here's a couple more photos of "our" roe buck who frequents the garden, taken a couple of days ago. The roe aren't quite as destructive as the muntjac but neither is house or garden trained.

The doe is still frequenting the garden, helping with pruning this evening.

@Singing Gardener  - what is it?
  • @Fire He's a baby grass snake. According to my OH you can tell he's a boy by the shape of his head. We've never seen one in the garden before and he stayed in the pond for hours. We're hoping he'll come here regularly.
