You are right there Joyce - my daughter read that poem at my mother's funeral, so it brings back happy memories of her. She always had time to look at the flowers, the birds, the sky at night etc. and taught us to appreciate what is around us. Most people are too busy "being" and don't notice the beauty all around us, which is all too often taken for granted.
I could watch the birds for hours. Before I had my little pond here, I put a seed tray out filled with water for the birds and insects. The little robins having a bath was always a delight.
You're right GD - we don't take time to look at all the 'little' things around us. We're far too busy being ....far too busy...
This morning I had a visit from these two ....
I was thrilled
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I am not surprised you were thrilled with your visitors Fairy, they are one of my favourite garden birds too. We started with a pair of Goldfinches 3 years ago, the following year there were four and last year there were approx. a dozen at one time, either feeding or waiting their turn at the feeder - so now we have put up three feeders, but only 4 goldfinches at the moment.
I did look up William Henry Davis, thanks Joyce. He is wearing a cap as my Dad sometimes did - it is a thought provoking statue and I love that poem.
Well i dont have any photos atm but i have a group of about 20 House sparrows that stay in my garden, I love to wath the flitter about the place, I have recently moved my rockery into the corner and my robin and blackbird are very happy!
I can hear the BB's have a nest in the hedge, so can't wait to see them. I found one lost bee on my doorstep, moved him to a saver spot on a stone and put a bit of sugared water beside him to gain his strength again, he'd gone the next day so i'm hoping he flew off...
Spotted my first wasp of the year when i moved my rockery, for them having such a bad name, i find them rather plesant to watch. I enjoyed seeing all types of beetles and beasties when i moved my rockery (as did the robin!) and i've never seen such huge worms - one was soo big robin had a bit of a job - (i had burried him to try and save him)
I also have a hedgehog in the garden, i've only seen him once (as he arrives way after my bedtime!)
It's the first time I've had goldfinches since I've been in this house ( four years) GD. They appeared one day a couple of months ago, but I've not seen them again till yesterday. Of course, they could have been waiting every day till I went to work and then gorged themselves until I came home.....
Lovely to have a something to watch, Lucy isn't it?
I had a queen wasp in that warm spell a while ago. I love watching wasps 'harvest' wood for their nests.

Spotted an all white butterfly today and thought it was a small white and followed it until it landed when it almost disappeared due to its camouflage! It's a female Orange Tip which (confusingly) doesn't have orange tips to the wings - only the male has those:
I saw a male a few days ago - let's hope they get together!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

GD, not too far from here, there is a statue of the William Henry Davies ( who wrote "What is this lIfe..")
He is standing looking out to sea with his arms on top of a wooden railing.
If you Google "statue of .....and his name you will be able to see it.

Tom - it's simple pleasures, isn't it?

Not so lovely was this yesterday. It seems to like eating roses!

Lovely Bob. Really well camouflaged indeed
I had the daft pigeon sitting in the pond today
